Retro Madness

It's a bit trippy.

Bit.Trip Beat is yet another game in the "we can be retro, too" style of game development, and I welcome it with open arms.  Impressions, coming up... now!

  • Top-notch art style right down to the color scheme and the heavily pixelated backgrounds.  It might be inspired by Pong and the Atari generation of games, but with a modern twist.
  • Chiptunes... awesome!
  • Simple, yet satisfying controls.  All you do is twist, that's all.  It totally works.
  • Only 3 levels... yep, that's a bummer, but at least the levels clock in at a solid 15 minutes and range in difficulty.  It will require some memorization, especially in the final level where it just goes completely insane.

All in all, it's a short, but fantastic first game in the series.  You will want to come back to those same 3 levels more and more just to boost your high score.

I give it one whole Snide in shining armor.

I saw the Quick Look on Giantbomb and Jeff seemed to like it, but yeah... and I don't want to go back. I'm going to pass.
