It sounds patronising, but make sure you entered the code correctly. A U can easily look like a V in the font Microsoft print the codes in. It's happened to me many times.
It's an interesting game desicion, to add dynamic enemies into the mix. I'm a bit worried that they will hold your hand all the way through though, like they did in the demo. The Invisible Predator part of the demo is WAY EASY and I could probably do it all without detective mode. Can't imagine playing this game on anything other than the hardest setting.
You can get achievements with the legit copy. Probably best just creating a new game and new account. It's really not that bad, just play through again doing all the stuff you didn't last time. This time, why not buy some DLC? You have alot more stuff to do. I suggest Broken Steel.
