@eccentrix: Haha that was my thought exactly. Let’s start the transparancy by announcing the founder of the site is out via a bad press release and not give him any oppotunity to personally say as much as goodbye to his fans on the site.

And he can’t talk about his departure on his personal stream either, probably because of some form of contract or NDA, but other than that totally transparent.

Watching all the craziness unfold today and Jeff's stream which is live right now, it's pretty clear that we aren't going to get the actual true story about what the hell happened. The press release on GB was weirdly none-commital despite literally starting with the sentence: "Starting today, we want to enter a new era of transparency with you, the GB audience." and the video acted like he never existed.

And Jeff himself literally never mentioned Giant Bomb on his stream, but just said: “There'll always be people that want to know: “What's the real story?” But we'll move on. Upward and onward."

It seems clear that there is a contract in place that prevents both parties from actually talking about what happened. But the way I see it everything points to Jeff getting fired.

His Patreon and everything around it was clearly done in the last minute and he said that he basically had two weeks to find out what to do and get everything ready. This lines up with the last thing he did on the site being the Bombcast on May 24th. He literally never got a farewell Bombcast, stream, even blog post to say farewell to his fans on the site. I can't imagine that is what he wanted and it is different from everyone else leaving GB. Nextlander, Dan, Abby, Patrick, etc., they all got a proper farewell.

To me everything about this screams that Jeff got fired a little less than two weeks ago and was told to immediately stop his work there and not say or do anything before GB had launched their new direction with the new hires.

My personal speculation is that Jeff's direction of "Not just video game shows" after the Nextlander guys left wasn't seen as working, so upper management might not have wanted him to be a part of the new GB going forward. They would rather take his presumably high salary and pay for a couple of young people like Tam and Lucy.

Of course it could "just" be that Jeff announced he was leaving to RD two weeks ago (or they tried to give him a new contract he wouldn't accept) and then they immediately burned that bridge and asked him to stop working and not annonce anything. But in the end it's kinda the same thing for me as a fan.

The founder and soul and the site was unceremoniously kicked out like he was never even there. And that leaves a bit of a bad taste in my mouth.

And sorry for the long rant, I just had to get my thoughts straight on why I think everything points to him getting fired.

@noboners:

While the display was sub 360p, I'm pretty sure PSP was able to output at 480p if you connected it to a TV.

That being said, you would hope Sony has spend some time devoloping a solution, because yeah, it's gonna look pretty shit if it's just the old resolution on my 4K TV.

Front Mission is one of those series that has one absolutely amazing game and the rest goes between middling and trash..

Just play Front Mission 3. It's not going to be the same experience as back in 99, but it's still a great game. And it doesn't even look that bad, the art style has a good retro feel to it.

@bisonhero: In the last garage stream Jeff was pretty clear that he was going to make a new team of permanent hires. So it’s on the plate, but I don expect it to happen before the end of the year.

And while it sucks, I think it’s important to remember that GB/Jeff has never really been in a hurry to replace people. We’ve seen with Ryan, Drew, Patrick, etc. that this often takes like a year.

@myke_tuna:

Thank you :) While I personally picked Austin era because I'm just a huge fan and there were so much good stuff being produced on both coasts, I get what you mean.

Whiskey Media era in the basement office really had a special feeling of anything can happen. There were a lot of diffent people in the office and it felt like cool people could drop in on videos any time. The was just a real free spirit to the whole thing, that definitely lessened after the sale to CBS.

It seems to me that a lot of people are looking hard for a justification that they cancelled their sub after the split.

I don't think it's that complicated if you like what the site puts out, then great, if not then there's no reason to be a sub. The things described in that article has really not been seen on GB at all after the RV takeover.

I'm probably closest to Patrick, but I'm aspiring to become a Vinny. He continues to be an inspiration on how to just handle yourself in a work environment and make people feel good around you.
