Wow....I had absolutely no idea what I was getting into when I started this thread....but it's good to hear such varied opinions that are justified in their own way:)
I suppose if SE were to keep producing the RPGs that we love, this move becomes a necessity....else their NEXT Final Fantasy could very well have become their FINAL Fantasy...kinda like how they began the franchise in the first place.
Regardless of whether we resort to multiple discs on the 360 or HD installs on the PS3, I think it's safe to assume that the experience on both will be near identical if not exactly. How many of use are going to actually play both versions of the game and produce our own version of IGN's Head-to-head? I think not, we probably have better things to do, like playing the game for that matter.
I know I might sound like one of the corporate big wigs when I say this, but it's true...at the end of the day, the consumer wins (provided we have the cash to foot).
Maybe my comparison leaves a lot to be desired, but I tend to hearken this to say for example.....Diablo 2 (or any Blizzard game for that matter) on the PC and Mac---it's just which platform we choose to go with.
Yeah we have fond memories of Final Fantasies on the PSX but it's all cyclical depending on the state of the industry. I think we need to also bear in mind the fact that at least SE didn't pull a FF VII on us...that is to say, back in the day when they announced that they were going to shift support full steam for the newly announced PSX platform instead of Nintendo's.....it could have been uglier folks....much much uglier.
