Yeah this is some David Duke-esque bullshit. Traditional families have never been traditional. Western Civilization was on the brink of collapse for a full millenium after Rome fell and it sure as hell wasn't the saved by the traditional family unit. In fact, the defense of that family unit and the "holy" reverence of homogeneity lead to the problems of inbreeding that killed off so many Noble families and helped the Dark Age continue to be Dark. The truth is, that by spreading and sharing our genes to eachother, we help Homo sapiens survive as a species. Should a white guy in Africa who's genetically immune to AIDS stay within his race? Logic says no. Not if that gene could pass down and, in any way, help fight that horrific disease where it's most rampant. The fact is racial inbreeding could very well help to kill us. No amount of racist pseudo-science will change that.

Traditional Families, Traditional Marriages are all glorified nonsense that never existed. Marriages were business arrangements, and still are. I'm about as Euro-white as a Canadian can be (Brit/Norsk/German). My brother married a Japanese woman and they had a western wedding. Her sister's wedding was very traditional.

In my own experience, I was in a relationship with a latina woman whose heritage is Chilean. To my knowledge she had one cousin who once questioned why she didn't date someone within her own community (I'm probably being generous in my paraphrasing). Over a decade ago I had a university fling with a Filipino gal, whose mother despised her prior relationship (and following marriage) with a man of very different culture and religion.

I won't go into much more detail, but I can say three non-sequitur things through personal observation:

1. The worst human beings I have ever met are all caucasians.
2. Being part of a culture that does not treat women with great respect or fidelity, makes them appreciate men who do.
3. Drama doesn't find you. It sees you coming.

I've never even thought of it as something different than any other relationship. And I don't personally know anybody who has a negative opinion of them.

I certainly wish I was fully one or the other, being half-black hasn't been the greatest of experiences so far.

I have a friend who's black that doesn't date black women. We both are from Detroit, but he ended up going to Canada when he became a teenager. During his High School years he was with a variety of people, and lived in the suburbs. Though he despises his race and doesn't want much to do with them. As of now he's 22 and lives with a group of his friends from High School. All of them are white and he's the only black guy that lives in the house. His taste in women is between white or Japanese.

As for my high school experience its been the complete opposite. I've been through so much bullshit in high school its unreal, though I do regret doing something in high school I wish I never done, but it is what it is. As for my preference in women I like all kinds, Japanese,black, white,Arab, Mexican, all kinds of women.

Yes and no. There's a marked difference between jokes that come from a place of inclusion, and jokes bred of intolerance or ignorance. "Jokes" were being made by bigots throughout the segregation era, and acceptance wasn't exactly the catalyst there.

Obviously the most important thing is the context, and the intent. When you're making someone feel excluded because the jokes are purely at their expense, I don't think it's funny. That's an obvious one, and I'm sure you agree. Problem is, a lot of kids are pretty careless with that kind of thing. They're learning the jokes but not the baggage they carry, and if the rest of their friends are busy yukking it up, they'll fail to notice how their subject feels.

And of course, there are also the guys who are just intentionally demeaning with their humor. But that's a whole 'nother matter.

I actually don't know where I'm going with this, so I'll wrap it up. Just because humor can be used positively doesn't mean it can't be used negatively. "Racial humor" just happens to fall all-too often into the latter, and becomes another tool for exclusion, whether intentionally or not. You can be thoughtful about it and make it funny, but... jeez, a lot of folks sure go the complete wrong way with it.

When I am together with my friends nothing is safe in any form we makes fun about us and other people, races, women, men family members diseases you name it. That of course does not mean all the time but if something like that is spoken out everything is fair game. Of course I would never do that with people I do not know or know would be upset about it. But if I am with friends there is absolutely no taboo.

I think you'd be surprised. There are alot of places in the Southern U.S. and other rural areas where interracial relationships are considered taboo even today. Even young people in more conservative, traditional areas assume that it's wrong.

My girlfriend is mixed race (half-Italian, half-Korean) and her parents had to put her up for adoption because their parents didn't approve of the relationship (and this was in 1991). I'm glad that attitudes are becoming more progressive, but we've still got a ways to go.
