I'd never heard it referred to as "gleeking", but I always thought it was gross when kids in school would do it. Prior to today, I don't think I'd ever seen anyone outside of school age children do it.
Without having seen the vid, gleeking from my youth meant spitting thru your teeth in a spray.
You did really great under pressure. The only downside was that those of us in chat did not have "chat fobwashed" churning out GIFs for our enjoyment during the stream.
@fobwashed: It's specifically the part where you literally have to start cancelling dinner plans and reserving 5+ hours of your time for a video game that kind of burned me out after a while. It was this huge commitment to keep up with the group, whose every member had all three classes fully leveled up and ran every event on each and every one of them.
Yea, I had friends that were way into MMORPGs and raiding. It was pretty much a second job for them. I stuck it out because I knew if I stopped, I'd never come back to it. Also, it was being streamed so it'd be pretty shitty to drop. Especially after we lost someone already.
As someone who's never truly gotten into MMO(ish) games this seems like it'd be waaaay too high stress for me. I don't have enough available friends to do something like this with, and any randoms I'd play with would just get royally pissed off at me. It also seems to be stradling the line of what I would consider fun (just because of what's expected of you, it's like you even fuck up once and that's IT).

Yea, it was kinda stressful but everyone playing was cool people so nobody seemed to lose their cool when shit went bad.
@fobwashed unless you have no desire to play the game anymore, don't wait until year 3. Going through the raid a second time will be faster smoother and you will for sure see better loot.
Also people who get pissed off about someone making a mistake in video game need to fuck off, i don't care if add's 2 minutes or 2 hours to what your doing its a game and its for fun, so don't let asshats like that discourage you.

I watched it live for the first 4 hours, but by then it was midnight and I had to go to bed. I will definitely be watching the end when the archive goes up.
I play a lot of destiny but I don't know anyone who has it so I've never done a single raid, watching this and GB's vault of glass it looks like its too much of a time sink and overall stress for me if I'm honest

@fobwashed: What do you feel now, it's what I feel when I finish the Vault of glass for the first time, many days and ours later I get tired about this game, same mechanics over and over again, and really, the game now it's not to much different from vanilla Destiny, they only added more things to do, that is all.

I think for the most part, I'm done with Destiny till the next big thing. I may check in now and again just to shoot shit but I don't feel any pull anymore.
You picked a good group it seems for your first Destiny raid experience. Little risky with the whole it being live streamed thing since the internet is what it is...but all in all I think you did well. I watched the stream from start to end...and yeah I can see why it made you feel sick. Sitting for that long, being super focused for that long....with limited breaks...is not fun for the body.
ANYWHO! Good job dude! You did it! Now go take something for the nausea and get the heck away from pc and consoles and rest. *thumbs up*
Yea definitely! It was a blast playing with that group. It mighta been a little funner and looser if it weren't being streamed but on the flipside, if it weren't being streamed, I woulda tapped out before finishing. I'm happy we finished.
Hell yeah. You haven't raided properly until you've put off at least several other things you should have done and ignored sleep/food or both for hours on end. For real though, glad you had fun. Being in a tight knit group like that and finally overcoming what seem like impossible odds is always amazing. Clearing Turn 9 in Coil of Bahamut in FFXIV is one of my favorite moments by far in video games period.

@fobwashed You guys killed it! I've never experienced a raid myself but now i'm getting hyped when I finally hit enough light to do it. I'm ready to feel all the raid feels :)
It's always super interesting seeing people that have never done raiding of any kind seeing this sort of thing for the first time - both you and also many in the chat. For all the headaches it causes, there is definitely something to it. Downing a boss for the first time really is unlike anything else in gaming.

Thanks! I tried to watch when they did Vault of Glass but didn't. I forget why. It was a blast tho I kept feeling like I was screwing things up.
I remember having a similar high and crash after my first raid. It's definitely a unique experience if you've never played real MMORPGS before. I also similarly remember bad loot and apart from the fun part of besting a challenge with a fun group of friends clearly thinking "man that was not worth the time we put into it" which was a feeling that followed me around until I eventually decided to stop playing.
Taken King and all the praise sort of had me itching to get back in it and seeing the raid ironically had the opposite effect. I'm glad I watched most of it because it's like I was vicariously able to get it out of my system. Those can be fun times especially with the right people but man do I not want to dedicate that much time into a single activity ever again.
I've played a lot of the bigger MMORPGs starting with EQ all the way through FFXIV but never did any big group stuff beyond some smaller instance dungeons. Those were always fun just because it was a good way to be social with my friends while playing a dumb game in the background. And yea, main reason I prob won't do this again is because it's such a time investment. Tho I don't regret doing it this once =]
Every photoshare site I've tried seems to add grain to hard pixel edges so I went ahead and zipped up the files and uploaded to a file share site. Go ahead and download these and resize them to whatever your resolution is for a clean, grainless wallpaper. I've got all the basic aspect ratios so it should only be a matter of a quick resize =)
Upon doing further research, it turns out that Windows by default changes any BG filetype into a jpeg before setting it as the bg. This explains the grainy edges. So what I've done is I went ahead and saved the files as very high quality jpegs. It fixes the situation at least on my computer. I'll have to redo all the individual walls since I've been editing them over time as well but I'll save that for later. For now, here's the current crew!

In the beginning
right now it's just the two of us.
I like the picture I have in my head of a bunch of em just running to the right like they're in some awful video game so I'll stick w/that motif for anyone else I add. I'll continue on with this until it eventually becomes something bigger, but no less stupid. Consider this a first pass -_-;; I'll put some more time into it tomorrow perhaps =)
Any suggestions for positions/clothing/people to add would be welcome =) I'm thinking I'll prolly do Jeff or Patrick next but who knows. . .
Update 1:
So, I fixed a few things at this point and added a rough Klepek. Ryan's beard has been trimmed a little in the neck area and I've increased Brad's sideburns by 100% (added a whole nother pixel to it). I've also made some adjustments to the clothing around Ryan's left arm. I messed around a little bit w/the idea of adding stubble to his chin but didn't really like how it looked so it's off for now though that's not to say it's not a possibility later on. I wanna get everyone in before I start really digging into details because I wanna keep it uniform. Btw, Klepek is in the classic shaggy run pose and wearing the same outfit I had him in my previous GB pixel thingy because I just think it's hilarious =P
I'll be back w/more eventually. I'm not entirely happy w/PK's pants. . .

Added a Jeff. The face is still rough. I was thinking about having him look as if he's whistling but maybe I'll give him a more aggressive look. . . though if I did that it might make more sense if he was leaning forward on his mega scooter. iono.

Added Mr Caravella & Co. I'll prolly figure out a way to add hardcore dave into the mix and after that. I dunno. Is that everyone? Alex Nvarro? This is all still rough but I'd still appreciate any comments on how to increase anyone's likeness if I'm missing stuff. Mostly, I'll need to do fine tuning of the face and hair of everyone.

Drew to popular demand! Stupid pun aside, I added one Mr Scanlon to the mix. His face is still rough but I wanted to get the basic positioning in to see if it'd work in the first place. The only thing I can remember about him is North Korea, and flight simulators using that crazy 3 point hat sooooo. . . . he's doin an airplane whilst wearing said hat. I can't get the points on the hat to show w/a solid white bg, but it should be better once there's a bg that's not just white. Also, his face is somewhat jacked and you can't really see his hair. Mostly, the thing I'll go back and touch up the most will be all the character's hair since I just threw it in there to get the general face shape at the moment. Including Tricky's seemingly spike hair =P

Navarro joins the mix. I wasn't really sure what to do with him. I'd gotten some suggestions on a party hat which I might still add depending on whether ppl think it's necessary. I went with this tongue face and horn hands to the side but it's pretty hard to tell what's going on with his left hand so I may scrap it later on. Just a few more then I can get to everyone's hair, proper shadows and some sort of a BG. Also, at this point, I may need them to actually be running away or escaping from something. I've got a couple things in mind but I'd like to keep it a surprise for later =P Also, good ol' Mr Marino has this post into the Community Spotlight on the front page =) Thanks for that!

Re-positioned ppls and added a slightly older Hardcore Dave. At this point, am I missing anyone? -_-;; Does anything stand out as being completely wrong? If not, I'll prob start workin on some bg and fine tuning the existing characters into a more final phase =)

Started putting in a really simple BG. I'm still not positive what exactly I want back there but maybe it'll come to me as I continue working on the foreground stuff. Anyway, special guest appearance. I think maybe I should add a collection of things/people/characters etc on the left chasin the bombers on the right. Dunno. . . This is all just off the top of my head.

Lots and lots of little edits across everyone. Biggest change is Rorie no longer being all mean and trying an open smile for Mr Davis. Futzed with a lot of hair and such. I also just realized that chesty McChesty hair totally reminds me of that big dude with the nutty hair from some fighting game. Maybe Street Fighter 4. I forget.
