• The pipeline that eventually blew up was only drilled on April 20th, 2 days before the explosion took place. It was a new deepwater pipeline, dangerous and expensive. The rig that was used was only taken command of by BP in mid-2008, all very recently. These projects are new and quite hastily arranged.
  
• The oil field they were pumping out of only contained 50 million barrels, of which one can estimate about 40 Million MAXIMUM is recoverable (loss of pressure etc). Sounds like a lot until you realise the US consumes 21 Million barrels a DAY. That's 2 days worth of oil at self sufficient domestic consumption.
• Ask yourself why would the US which IMPORTS 14 million barrels a day go to such expensive and extreme measures to pump out a measly 40 Million barrels? Just 2 days worth. It is extremely expensive to drill such deep oil pipelines and hazardous, which is why the deepest oil fields have been left alone until now. It's just not cost-effective.
  
• There are no indications that the oil was set for domestic consumption.
• The US government has already stated many times that war with Iran will destabilise world oil, potentially drying up half of all world supply.
• The war planners have been making contingency plans to stockpile months worth of oil in advance, not just for itself but for partners and allies.
  
• If you factor in that oil supply right now is plentiful, semi-cheap (relatively), and the costs and dangers involved in drilling such a deep pipeline for such little gain makes absolutely no sense. You would only drill in such a oil field as a last case scenario, yet the US government was acting as if increasingly becoming desperate? The question is why? And I'm sorry to say but war planning is the only logical conclusion.
  
• Like I said the cost-effectiveness of the oil being pumped was expensive and the oil field was small. It obviously wasn't meant for International Markets, not when oil prices are DECLINING. 
• You might say the US could easily have 'bought' more oil, but that would have meant billions of extra barrels needing purchasing over the next year, which automatically raises alarm bells, since US domestic consumption is relatively flat and constant around 21 Million barrels a day. You might as well send a memo to your enemies saying war is coming.
• The oil pipeline in deepwater was also meant to check the feasibility of drilling relatively small deepwater oil fields which are numerous in the US Gulf. This would have ensured that future drilling in case of oil supply problems could be given the go ahead. The US could have used such deepwater wells to keep relatively self sufficient in a "worst case scenario" with a war against Iran.
  

The whole fuck-up was caused because the oil was being pumped out quickly to prepare for a War on Iran. The oil wasn't particularly for domestic consumption but for back up, because the Americans know Iran will seal off the whole Middle East oil supply which the US needs open, not just for itself but for its allies. The last thing the US wants is for China to get pissed off that another American war has hurt Chinese interests, who have the US economically by the balls.
 
So the US and its various oil corporations went about quickly drilling and pumping the oil out as quick as they could, without the necessary safety checks and failsafes. For them to do this would have meant extra costs and above all long delays, which the US reckons it does not have. 
 
Now, no one should care what the US does with its own oil, but when you disregard safety and threaten ecological disaster then it becomes everyones business. You've got environmental disaster and economic fallout with loss of shipping jobs, tourism etc in the Gulf states of the US.
 
Don't blame anyone but the ones in charge of it all.  And it's nice to see that once again an investigation hasn't mentioned the true points of what really happened and why. The irony with BP was that it was the company behind ousting Mohamad Mossadeq from Iran and the collapse of democracy in that country in te late '50's to secure its own oil interests and its now at the centre of another disaster whilst preparing for war with Iran. Idiots never learn.
