It's been a long while since I played Xenogears, but I remember liking how it's structure was built on famous philosophical/psychoanalytical allegories (Freud, Lacan, Jung). Did the Xenosaga games handle this kind of content well? Is there any of it in Xenoblade Chronicles? Any other games that steep themselves in these kinds of dogmatic tropes? I feel like PS1-era Square was really into this and no one really picked up the ball after that, but I'm sure I'm forgetting some games of note.
@Little_Socrates: funny how easy it is to pass over TKOL, I felt the same way for a long time. I'm glad I eventually guilted myself, as a Radiohead fan, into giving it a fair shake. I should give Watch the Throne another chance too; I was turned off by Otis, which I found totally boring. I've liked other things that I've heard from it here and there though.
@RagingLion: Thanks for reading. I'll check out BSBD, they do seem like a sound I'd enjoy.
Bon Iver is one of those artists that I can really appreciate and respect, but it's just not the type of thing I purposefully reach for to put on. I dunno, I just usually need something singer/songwriter-y to be framed within some other genre that clicks better with me. The new Chromatics album opens with a Bob Dylan cover that is absolutely stunning (could say that for the whole LP actually). I guess there's some crossover there.
Other than that, yeah M83 is tops, and at their best right now, unless they get even better with their next project. GGD is a band that I have a hard time explaining why I love. I don't really like other bands that have similar sounds. There's only room in my heart for one spazzy, tribal, NY, hipster, weirdo band, ya know.
I know I've been diversifying the kinds of posts on this blog, but I never wanted that to come at the sacrifice of creating new mixes. Regardless of how it has come to pass, I haven't given listeners and readers a fresh mix in close to 8 months. Well, here's the latest one off the decks; I'm calling it "Drifter." It's just over an hour of pulsing techno/house, full of some tunes I've had my eyes on for months. Thanks for listening, and rest assured the next batch won't take near this long. Enjoy.
