Giant Bomb vs Tested: Browsers

I thought this was interesting. Chrome and FireFox traffic are flipped between Giant Bomb and Tested. The same goes for Safari and Internet Explorer traffic. Fascinating.

Edit: oh shit i didnt see that they are different colours on each one... what a stupid think for a pie chart to do when comparing stuff!

Wait. 0.07% on Mozilla means that at least someone is using it. How the fuck is that browser even usable anymore? (Note: Mozilla, not Firefox)

Look closer. I made the same mistake at first, too.

Very interesting stats. I still use Firefox because I love its add-ons, but for people who don't get any use out of those, I can totally understand switching to Chrome.

@CptChiken: It's just the way some systems auto-generate charts, assigning the same standard colors to the most popular, 2nd most popular, and so on. Unless it's something like Excel (which this sure doesn't look like to me), it's typically not easy to change.

It's because those charts are on two different pages. They aren't side by side like that in Google Analytics.

As far as I know, the Mozilla Compatible Agent is possibly SeaMonkey. Otherwise I am deeply, deeply alarmed.

I like Chrome, but my main browser is Firefox. Opera is brilliant as well. I'm also surprised to see RockMelt doing well - it's certainly not a very close beta, is it?

When I started working at this particular office, I was specifically told "If you're going to mess around on the internet from work, at least use Chrome to do it."  So I do.

@Afroman269: I try occasionally because I want to see if I can download HD H.264 video directly to my console.  Unfortunately the login system and the search box are completely broken on the PS3 browser.  I can't even use the mobile version of the site and sneak in that way.

From what I know, it runs a similar version of Gecko to Firefox 3.6. It probably is not as new as that in Firefox, but it'd be new enough to use the site. It would almost certainly not be enough to use the site to its fullest, but it is sufficient to probably use the site. After you raised your question I actually opened SeaMonkey (yes, I have it installed) to see quite how it worked with the site. The search bar has incredibly tiny fonts, and the buttons are the color they go when a browser is unsupported, but beyond that, it seems to work well enough. I have a massive number of browsers installed on my computer. SeaMonkey tends to be used by people who either want an all in one browser and mail client (though Mozilla do make Thunderbird and Firefox), or want the more familiar design of Firefox 2.0. The browser has a massive number of features but I dislike the interface to the point where I can't be bothered to toy around with it anymore.

Thats pretty interesting, used to use Firefox a lot but for some reason Youtube and Giantbomb videos simply were blocked from my browser and I could not figure out why for the life of me. Switching to Chrome fixed that problem and I just fell in love with it. I find it awesome that it came pre-installed on my laptop.

Out of curiosity, I tried it to see for you. And yes, it actually does! I went to YouTube and watched a video, and there wasn't even the prompt to say I needed to upgrade my browser. It would appear that SeaMonkey actually uses a fairly recent version of the Gecko engine.

Ahem. I choose Minefield, because I like pre-release stuff. Chrome is nice and stuff, but I'll again point out its critical flaw for me: I dislike the font rendering in it. The browser war is so close that my reasoning actually can come down to how it makes my fonts look.

Allow me to sneer and introduce you to Chromium. :P
The most recent stable release of Chrome is 9.x, correct? Chromium is on 11.x. But it isn't a stable release, necessarily. Minefield makes me feel like a 1337 haxxor though, because when people ask what browser I use, I can say it's one that is not yet fully released to the world.

The only thing that Firefox has over Chrome is the fact that everyone's so used to it.  I won't go on a rant about Chrome being faster because that would only end in contradiction, which doesn't count as an argument.  That being said, Chrome is cleaner visually and more appealing to the eye, and the toolbar is much more practical.  Take a look:

There's a few things you should notice...  First of all, the Chrome browser shows more of the page due to its smarter use of space.  It's worth noting that I even have Chrome set to show my bookmarks bar, and not Firefox.  Yet, the toolbar still takes up less space.  Not to mention that Firefox still has that crappy, box-like Windows XP design.  Add on the fact that the bottom toolbar is always visible for no reason, and you have a very claustrophobic browser on your hands.

There's also the added plus that if one tab flips out and crashes, you simply reload that tab, and the other tabs are unaffected.  I remember raging so hard every time Firefox crashed because of just one tab.  It just felt silly.

I never understood the "tech savvy people use Chrome" argument. What exactly does it do differently and why does that let me have a better browsing experience? I always tend to go with one browser until it starts pissing me off. I used IE up to IE 8. When it stopped working, I switched to Firefox. Firefox does everything I need a browser to do.

If it weren't for the fact that Chrome is fickle as hell when it comes to image placing on Whiskey sites I could be done with Firefox. I feel like I'm giving my computer a big swig of Mercury every time I open it up.
