They will no doubt add support for more VC-goodness later on. N64 probably isn't that far away, and I've also heard some rumors about Gamecube-support! It's basically free money for Nintendo!

While I certainly wouldn't call it amazing, seeing as the console hasn't sold very well, and the guys at Nintendo have done quite a bit of mismanagement with their franchises and the system itself. However, the games that have come out have been really awesome!

If I bought one, I'd like it too.

The Wii was a big miss for me because of the controller. I'm down for a Nintendo platform with a more sensible control setup.

I totally agree about the controller! I bought the Wii several times because of some really great games, but ended up selling it again because of the awful controllers. I don't really want to sit on my couch and wiggle the Wiimote around, and it's equally awful when turning it on the side and using it in the traditional way. I was extremely happy when I first tried the gamepad, and felt how good it fits my hands. Also, the Pro controller is a great alternative!

this console is as good as dead when ps4/xbone step into the market...not even big exclusives like bayonetta 2 is going to save it

I disagree. Firstly, the PS4 has already stepped into the market, but there really is no incentive to buy it yet, and the Xbox One seems to be no different. I'm not spending $400 - $500 on a system to play Killzone or Knack. Ofcourse there are plenty of reasons to buy those consoles down the road, like exclusive games, but that's equally as correct about the Wii U! You are probably right, Bayonetta 2 is not a system seller, but it's probably going to be a must buy for everyone else who will get the console for the BIGGER exclusives like Smash Bros, Mario Kart, Donkey Kong, Zelda, X, Monster Hunter, etc.

Once the dust settles, and people realize that slightly better graphics doesn't necessarily mean better games, people will see what the Wii U has to offer, and buy it.

Good to see some other positive thoughts on the Wii U! :)

I've been playing Lego City Undercover lately, and I'm having a blast. So many funny references to movies and pop-culture, that's clearly aimed at an older audience but still retaining that charming and wacky Lego-humor! Also I've been playing some Arkham City since I got it for cheap, which is weird, since I've had the game for about a year on my fairly powerful gaming PC, but never really bothered to play. For some reason I'd rather play a clearly inferior version on the Wii U! :P

As the title says, I think the Wii U is a great console! I'm wondering why so many seems to love hating the Wii U. I know that the Wii U has it's share of faults, but do those faults warrant the amount of hate it's getting?

As I see it, the biggest drawbacks of the system are:

  • It's not being marketed correctly. It's a next gen console, but comes off as a "Wii expansion" to casual gamers. Just today I overheard a woman in the store, planning to buy a console for her son. She was talking to her friend, discussing what console to get. She eventually decided on the PS3, because according to her friend, the Wii has bad graphics and is outdated. The Wii U didn't even come up during the conversation.
  • It's losing third party support because it's costly for companies to rewrite their games for the Wii U's architecture, and it doesn't have the player base to justify that cost yet.
  • For some reason, Nintendo still hasn't made a persistent account-service yet. I'm not going to buy games on the e-shop if I risk losing them if something happens to my console.
  • Nintendo is being way too slow in releasing their core franchises, and should've had more of them ready at launch.

Some other complaints that other people have:

  • The graphics suck. Well, I don't really agree with that. The Wii U can sport some pretty great graphics if games are developed for the system instead of just ported over. Just take a look at Mario Kart 8, Super Mario 3D World or "X". Additionally, if graphics are are your main concern, the only real option is a gaming PC.
  • It's not a "next gen" system. This is probably the most stupid complaint. Of course it's a next gen system, it's the successor to the Wii, Nintendo's last gen system. Many people only use the term to refer to next generation graphics. In that regard I'd say none of the new consoles satisfy that claim. It's just stupid to focus strictly on graphics on consoles that feature mostly 720p, with select games managing 1080p.
  • It doesn't have achievements/trophies. I'm not sure how I feel about this one. For the last 4 years I have been hunting trophies on the PS3. I enjoy getting rewarded for playing games, even though I know that the rewards mean nothing. At least I think I do. After playing the Wii U for a while, I actually don't miss the trophies. No more getting a pop-up trophy every time I complete a mission in a game. Now, if I feel I've accomplished something, I'll simply press the Home-button to take a screenshot, hop into Miiverse and post it there for my friends and everyone else to see. It's so much more personal than regular trophies! Trophies can be a double-edged sword. I started out loving Tekken Tag 2, but I honestly hated it by the time I was done getting all the trophies. All for a stupid Platinum-trophy that even my friends will never notice.

So, here's my favorite part: what I love about the Wii U:

  • The games! Oh my god, it's been a long time since I've had so much fun playing games! Don't get me wrong, I love me some Uncharted, God of War and Red Dead Redemption, but even those games can't compare to the sheer fun that Nintendo manages to squeeze out of seemingly simple concepts. Right now the Wii U has a much stronger library than both the Xbox One and PS4, and favorites like Mario Kart 8, Smash Bros and Donkey Kong are coming soon. With other unconfirmed games like Zelda and Metroid sure to be coming in the near future, it's safe to say that there will be some great games there to sell the system. And when the system starts to sell, it becomes attractive for third party developers, which results in even more great games.
  • The gamepad! Why does everyone think this is just a gimmick? There's a reason why Sony is copying the concept with their PS4+Vita, and Microsoft is going for tablet integration with Xbox. It works! Instead of having menus clutter the TV, they can be easily accessed on the gamepad! If I want to, I can take my game with me to bed before I go to sleep! Also, the gamepad is really comfortable to hold!
  • The internet browser is actually very nice, and allows me to stream Youtube to my TV while browsing other sites at the same time on the gamepad.
  • Local multiplayer. If you want to have some casual fun playing local multiplayer, there is no competition. There's no chance I'll get my girlfriend to play Borderlands with me, but she absolutely loves playing some Wii Sports Club or any Mario-themed game. She's even showing interest in other games now, so you may call it a gateway drug!
  • An exciting/uncertain future. What do I mean by that? Well, right now it's clear that Nintendo needs to do something big to save their home console. They have taken one step in the right direction by linking e-shop purchases on the Wii U and 3DS. They are also working on a new IP, which is always exciting when talking about Nintendo. The Wii U's future is pretty much uncertain though, and that makes it exciting. Things will happen on the Wii U-front, and the console can only get better!

My original plan was to buy a PS4 at launch, but I got bored and bought the Wii U strictly out of morbid curiosity. Now, I wholeheartedly think that the Wii U is a great console, and it will probably be my main console this generation. My thirst for a "next gen" console has been quenched, and I won't be getting a PS4 before a price drop and Uncharted 4.

Thank you for reading my wall of thoughts! :)

To be honest I didn't really like the first one at all. I liked the concept of it, but I couldn't get past the clunky feel, bad frame rate, and the absolutely horrible loading times (played it on 360). I was really reluctant to try Mass Effect 2 after that experience, but I'm glad I did, because ME2 was definately my 2010 game of the year! After completing ME2 and loving it so much, I tried to go back and play ME1 again, but I had the same issues, even though I love the story. Played it for like 6 hours, then just gave up.

I'm probably most excited for the new races and race/class combinations, and the fact that 1-60 becomes completely different! :) Also, the guild advancement stuff seams neat!

I was recently blown away by that first WotLK instance. It's my first time in this expansion pack, and that first instance was pretty well designed and fun. Can't seem to remember the name of it though. Deadmines is probably my favorite WoW instance ever, and I can't wait for the update it's getting in Cataclysm! :)

How can you be only level 43 and be low on gold when you play 14 hours a day and piss in a bottle? You're clearly doing something wrong. Also, you're crazy for pissing in a bottle because of a game. Just crazy. The only logical explanation for why someone would piss in a god damn bottle because of WoW would be if you were in some high end raiding guild and in the middle of a raid, which you're obviously not. Even then, any normal person would just tell their guild "BRB TOILET" or whatever. You can't really blame the game for this. I guess some people are just weak that way and easily addicted to things.
