It is awful.

It is ice hockey made by people that understand stats based games. It is like what would happen if you asked Infinity Ward to make a soccer game.

It only exists because of the tendency of Final Fantasy games to have games inside the games...

Ok, that settles it.

Not that the delay is so game changing, but I was going to be in NY the week of the release, so I was considering getting a PS4 and this game on it...

Yes, I do. Now more than ever. As others said, I guess old age makes me more sentimental...

Initially it was rather awkward, and something that I felt was assumed and obvious. But it is nice to hear, regardless...

Besides, you never know how many chances life will give you...

@kasaioni: Of course. Just because I am not a fan, doesn't mean that I don't think Konami is handling this situation poorly, to say the least. Kojima certainly pours a lot of himself in those games, to be forcibly removed like that must be hearth-breaking.

@brodehouse:

I don't think this is a hoax or a troll.

If this all came from KojiPro, it could be, but I don't think Konami's shareholders share his sense of humor.

@kasaioni: To me, Kojima deserved the "fuck this" reaction with the ending of MGS 4, and then again with Ground Zero. The fact he didn't receive them from the community proves me that: a) Though I have a lot of respect for the man, I am not one of his "avid fans" and b) that he gets a lot more leeway and forgiveness than almost any other developer in the world.

That is the main problem Konami faces with a Kojimaless MGS. The man is so intrinsically associated with the series that, no matter the level of expertise of the new writer and creative director of the following games, and even if they are on par with the previous entries, there is no way the poor guy that inherits that burden will be up to the expectations put upon him, simply by not being Kojima. I do agree that, if this were handled differently (like Kojima announcing his retirement or naming a successor), a lot of people would be ok with the change, but right now it seems like he was forcibly left out of his own baby, and that is never cool.

@kasaioni: Having games like Vengeance (that don't take themselves too serious) is possibly the best future scenario.

My guess is that we will have relatively frequent games by other people that are not Kojima, all serious and angsty but with no great sense of pace. People will hate them for being way up their arse with the story, although objectively won't be worst than what we see throughout the series. Sort of like Indiana Jones 4...

@geraltitude: I... seriously doubt that. Kojima is likely one of the few high profile developers in Japan, and the games spam many generations and styles.

To be a MGS fan would require someone to be a gamer for the last 20 or 15 years. One does not get that kind of commitment without some knowledge rubbing off by mere osmosis (heck, I have never been a MGS fan, and even I know names like Solid Snake, Revolver Ocelot and The Boss). It is like being a fan of all Star Wars movies and never hearing the name "George Lucas"...

Some people only knew Metal Gear Solid 4 and didn't understand a quarter of the references, but I doubt they are the majority.

@humanity: Sure they can. Konami owns MGS, not Kojima Studios.

Remember when Capcom removed Kamiya and Clover Studios of the Okami games?

I don't remember that but its pretty weird. Surely at this point Kojima must have wrestled some IP ownership over to his side. I don't really know how this stuff looks legally but it seems weird that the publisher can all but erase any contributions from the developer as they please.

When Capcom made Okami HD, they removed a lot of references to Clover from the original game, including the logo from the credits and the intro. I am sure they are aware that a Kojimaless MGS would sell a lot less, but they have the legal rights to it if they chose to.

OT: I don't think this is more than an attempt at rebranding the studio. Given the propensity of a) Kojima to troll the community, and b) the community to second guess a lot of Kojima's moves; I tend to be really suspicious of stuff like this. Given that Kojima is the closest to a rock star from Konami, to the point they attach his name to other franchises (Silent Hill and Castlevania) to improve sales, I have serious doubts they are trying to pull a move on him without people realizing it.
