@kubqo: @adequatelyprepared: That is not Iwatani, though... just an actor that looks similar to him. Why they didn't went the extra mile and actually used the guy is beyond me, but its just another red flag.
Why is this a thing. This looks like a movie from the bygone era of people associating all video games with Nintendo and Atari. I'm confused.
I'm not saying it looks bad, I just don't get it. I guess old video games are iconic enough to pull this off?
Sandler built a lot of his late career on grown-ups nostalgia (Grown Ups being "old man reliving their youth", and Blended putting a lot of marketing emphasis on "The Wedding Singer couple"). I am not saying he doesn't have that nostalgia himself, but I can't see this being catered to 30-40 something people with little kids that are easily amused.
It is not offensively bad, and I haven't hear anyone refer to it like that.
It is just rather mediocre, though. Specially because it had potential for being great. I mean, they include Nikola Tesla, cover man of the "Mad Scientists" magazine, built you a weapon, and the best thing that comes out is a rifle scope...
Maxis was one of the few classic studios still around. I know people like to hate on EA or SimCity 4, but still... I just hope the people there can transition to other places.
We will eventually find out... Warner Bros revealed the identity of the ghost of Shadow of Mordor and the big bad of Arkham Origins long before the games were released. If someone is cast to play the voice of the Joker, the marketing department will try to make a big deal out of it before the game is out.
