HeyGuys

Trying to finish off some old games, somehow ended up in a 2009 time warp.

@gkhan: I do believe it, I pretty much even said that in my post. My point is that if you are engaging someone in an argument where you are trying to convince them of something they don't believe to respond to their skepticism with "it was them" can not be reasonably expected to convince them. If you're not interested in having that argument you can say so but can you deny what I'm saying there?

P.S. Yes I said I was done but I thought you deserved a response so I could explain my reasoning to you.

Whelp, good luck everyone. I've tried my best to create an environment of engagement rather than dismissal but damn am I tried of this whole thing, and I really mean this whole thing. My own stance is that GG is at a point where the most noble of its stated goals can no longer be accomplished through association with GG, that is not a condemnation of the majority of the people involved or the most well intentioned. At the same time I'm so disillusioned by the response of the gaming press and the tech press at large who I hold to a higher standard than an internet hashtag movement. Sam Biddle's "bring back bullying" and other tweets being a particular recent lowlight.

I'm at the point where I feel like I just need to take a break from the media and maybe a little break from gaming as a whole for a while. It's time to enjoy the simplicity of playing guitar and the complexity of reading a good book. My last words for anyone who cares are just be nice to each other, just be nice and we'll come a long way.

That is horrifying and I'm sorry you had to go through that. I do feel as if it might be unfair to automatically assume they were Giant Bomb users. I mean, neither of us really know, do we? There are plenty of horrible people that will latch on to any cause for their own reasons. That is why we see things like anarchists or idiots with guns showing up at protests.

I maintain that when I look at a site with so few employees, I can certainly think of a lot bigger targets when it comes to being critical for a lack of diversity. We're free to disagree on the topic. Maybe in the future if Giant Bomb continues to grow they can become more diverse. I imagine most people would welcome a talented or engaging on air personality regardless of their race or gender.

As for defending the site? Well, I think there is a connection between Giant Bomb and it's fans that not many other sites have. That might be why they have seen some success while other sites have been forced to lay people off. That might be why they actually have a premium subscriber option that seems to be flourishing. So when we see the site or it's community attacked in a way that we might see as unfair or overly broad brushing in nature, I think it's fair to disagree as long as it's done respectfully.

It was Giant Bomb users.

I'm absolutely willing to believe you, like all sites Giant Bomb surely has bad users but I understand that the other poster might be skeptical that those people were just saying back to them, "they were." can hardly be seen as likely to convince someone. So if you're interested in making that point to skeptical people maybe you could provide them with some evidence.

Trying to finish The Crossing by Cormac McCarthy and True History of the Kelly Gang by Peter Carey. I want to start reading Shadow Country by Peter Matthiessen again (got about 150 pages in a few months ago). I recently bought Norwegian Wood and The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle by Haruki Murakami and Tree of Smoke by Denis Johnson, but I won't let myself start them until I've finished something else.

Ever read Blood Meridian? Even after finishing it a few months back I'm still not entirely sure how I feel about that one. It's one of the least recommendable books in the world though, that I am sure about. I mean people think videogames are violent, I never played a game that even approached the content in Blood Meridian.

As for The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle, I'm sure you know what you're getting into with Murakami but get ready for a somewhat indulgent, wonderfully surrealist modern Tour-De-force.

I just bought Inherent Vice on Amazon so hopefully I'll be reading it by Monday. I heard it was funny and for a long time Pynchon fan that's enough for me to give it a shot.

It's a funny story really, well not so much funny but it's a story anyway. About two years ago ( I think? ) I was looking for a job after leaving my previous job writing for a trade publication and I know you'd never believe me but jobs writing in mostly print media are kind of hard to come by these days so I had a fair amount of free time on my hands. Obviously this was the perfect time to play a JRPG, maybe the only time, so I picked up Persona 4 because I had heard great things and hadn't enjoyed a JRPG in years and years but had a bunch of great childhood memories of the best of them.

Eventually I was looking for an answer to a riddle posed by one Funky Student and thought a YouTube video might be the quickest way to get the answer. After hearing the worst Ice Cube impressions known to Human Kind I was hooked.

Valkyrie Profile

This. Despite the PSP remake and two sequels, it's still really obscure.

I want to play this game so bad, wish it was available digitally.

You are so right about this. It feels like it's in there to prop up Borderlands RPG bonafides but progression in RPGs shouldn't feel like removing burdensome restrictions.

This is Brianna Wu, one of the women that's got sucked into this whole mess. I'm not going to get into a lot of debate here in this forum. I've already shown my thanks to GB for posting this. But, I do want to draw one thing to the attention of everyone posting here.

You are a bunch of men having a discussion about what you feel is a fair resolution for industry issues affecting industry women.

Some of your opinions are fine. Some are not. But I do want to remind you - there are not really women involved in the conversation here. And I'd like you to think about that.

I'd also like to tell the users of Giant Bomb, my first slate of rape and death threats came in January when I wrote a piece critiquing the absence of women voting for GOTY. I'd like you to think about that.

You do not know who is and who is not a man in this conversation.
