MMO games that have laggy skill inputs and 3D games that allow you full camera movement except for directly up and/or down.

I like when you spend time exploring the most obscure corners of a game world/level and when you think you've gotten somewhere you probably were never meant to be, you find a little Easter egg or item as a little reward. Mario Odyssey was the pinnacle of this type of game design imo.

@franzlska: Thanks for the feedback, and I too have been fascinated with that topic. I actually downloaded some software which enables you to drag and drop pixel art into it and it applies a nice CRT filter so you can toggle between normal and CRT styles of the image and see the differences. I used to automatically be against all filters, but after using that software and following that Twitter account for the past few weeks I have a different perspective on it. Like you mentioned though, graphics used to be made with CRT in mind, so maybe it doesn't work real well with a lot of modern pixel games because of that.

I've put about 5 hours in so far and I have to say that it's blown me away so far. The visuals really stand out and help with immersion. Since it's so rare to see a AAA game in VR, I hadn't realized how much of a difference good textures and lighting could make. It makes sense though since you are closer and examining everything. Seeing other humans in action in the game looks pretty surreal also.

The one thing I was slightly disappointed about was that I was expecting some new ideas for how to deal with locomotion, but they just use the VR standards. I have no idea what would be a good alternative, but I was looking forward to seeing some new ideas for that.

While no one part of the game feels revolutionary in the sense that it's something never done before, it definitely refines all the currently known elements of VR gameplay into a package that is more polished than anything that came before it. Any AAA VR game made in the future will be compared to Alyx.

I had fun with the Tenkaichi games. Once I got used to the controls I felt like I was able to control the characters quite well and the vertical 3D movement made it feel different than other fighting games.

@mezza: Great, thanks so much for the thorough answer. I have the next two weeks off work and wanted to pick something new up, hopefully I can find a good deal on that bundle.

I haven't played a Monster Hunter game before but wanted to get into it on PC. If I were to buy the base game and expansion, will the expansion fast track me to the expansion content, thus skipping over the base game content? Would I be better off just buying the base game for now if I wanted to play through all of the content in order?

I'm not here advertising or anything, but I think most people are familiar with the old stuff they did and a few months ago I was surprised to see that the EP youtube channel is regularly putting out quality videos, but they only get a couple thousand views and I never hear anyone talk about'em. Am I out of the loop about some reason why people shy away from that channel or is it just because of the huge amount of competition in the space?

I'd love to see something like this. Mega64 does something similar using their twitch channel, it just runs random videos of theirs constantly. Using that solution you don't even have to worry about keeping a chat room open since twitch has the one integrated.

The FLUDD is underrated! You spend a few moments with it and it feels like a natural extension to Mario that really lends itself well to platforming. Metroid Prime gave me one of my fondest gaming memories also. I locked myself in a room during Thanksgiving break and play through it over the course of a couple days. It has really great visuals and atmosphere that make the whole thing really immersive.
