Wasn't sure whether to ask this in the forums or not so decided to just make a blog about it. But yeah the title says it all. I don't really have any ideas in terms of structure, how many people, a name, when to record, etc. I guess that's something that can be figured out as a group. I'd prefer something not super serious. I just wanna talk games and have a good time. So yeah not sure what else needs to be mentioned. I guess just ask if you wanna know anything or whatever.

Yes, but I'm sure that they're already doing podcasts. Also, you should probably have a good idea of what you want your podcast to be before you make it.

Everyone always thinks they want to do one and I'm sure you'll get a lot of hate from people saying it's dumb. In my opinion if it seems like something you would enjoy definitely do it. Then get some opinions from other people and hopefully you get enough listeners to justify a weekly-bi weekly deal or however you want to do it. Good luck!

Do it if you want to for shits and giggles, but honestly there are enough random people on the internet doing them that I wouldn't get your hopes up to get very far with it. Unless you can come up with some neat idea or some how get together some super special people to do the podcast I wouldn't expect it to be heard by many people. Giant Bomb alone has like 4-5 ones going already if I recall correctly.
 
As I said, If it's something you really want to to do then have it. Just don't go in expecting to set the world ablaze or anything.

Yeah there are plenty or random ones just on this site. I mean fuck, EYE have a podcast. Podcasts are nothing special... but if you really want to, don't let anyone stop you.

I'm not really concerned with gaining popularity and becoming the best podcast out there or anything. If a small following were to develop that's cool, but that would just be a neat benefit. I actually have a podcast but it's a solo thing that I did mostly for my own amusement and just to get the feel for it. I do agree it may be odd to talk to people I don't know for an hour or two but I figure we're all gamers here so it'll be fine, perhaps after an adjustment period.

I've always wanted to do a podcast in English about games (I host a Spanish one about...well, random stuff). If you really want to go somewhere with this, I know how to edit and produce a podcast, so even if you do it and need help with that stuff, my services are there. Also, it's hard to get a good vibe in a podcast unless you immediately "click" with the other people.

@kishinfoulux: I could be your Jeff Gertsman. I have old-school arcade cred and a decent handle on the industry past and present. Also, I have sexy voice.

Hey. That seems like a fun thing to do. If you don't mind an occasional russian accent I'd be happy to join. With all the people from around the world here on GB it could be like an internationally themed thing. Just throwing this idea out there.

I'd love to try my hand at it, but I have no idea if I could stay funny/interesting off the top of my head for that long, or if I could even keep a schedule for it if things worked out.

If I wasn't so shy I probably would. My wife has been telling me I need to form one because of all my opinions I have on developing video games and ways to better ones that I play.

On hosting, I've checked libsyn out, and they seem fine, price-wise. My Spanish podcast is hosted by a gaming website/forum, so we're good on that, and I've never had a problem with it.   My dream as a podcaster is something akin to Idle Thumbs mixed with MBMBAM. Heavy editing coupled with user content, but for that you need a listener base, so for now it's just heavy editing. It seems that there are a ton of people on this forum that would love to participate in podcasts, and I'd love to be a big part of something different from the standard formula we have nowadays, but I don't really have the setup to record.

I am interested but only if it's something that's not being done one minute, then it doesn't take off so everyone quits showing up.

A lot of people propose doing these, some people have friends they do them with, others just want to do it with the community they're in, but very few actually do it for very long.

I'm interested in taking part, I'm from England so time zones could be an issue in the long run.

If there are enough people willing to volunteer, maybe we could have rotating members from show to show? But if you're serious, I'd like to join up as well. :)

As far as a web host goes I do have a Libsyn account already for my current podcast so that wouldn't be an issue. I'd just start up a new feed for the new one or something.

Okay just so I don't have to send out a ton of PM's I'll just post any information here. An AIM chat is definitely in order. I've gotten a lot more people interested then I thought I would also. I'm sure timezones will make this tricky. I'm off Monday/Tuesday so that seems like a good time to get the chat going. I doubt we will realistically get a chat going with every single person who wants in at once considering different schedules and stuff. So either multiple chats are in order or I can just hand out my AIM name and we can take it from there or something.

I'm up for it. I'm free pretty much all week except for Sundays and Wednesday evenings. I live in the UK btw.

We do one, it's a fun waste of time. Just don't let yourself get too hung up about having lots of listeners.
