@Jrad: I mainly like to stick with AMD because of the cheaper prices, though if it really is a huge difference for Intel, I wouldn't mind spending a bit more

The i5 2500K is amazing - I am not AMD or Intel fanboy - have been jumping back and fourth between those two for as long as I can remember.

But with the stock cooler on my i5 2500k, I am able to clock it to 3.9-4 GHZ without it even breaking a sweat - and temps are still kept as a fine level - also the stock cooler is surprisingly quite too.

It is just plain old great bang for your bucks - a CPU I easily see in my machine for 4 more years.

I have been wondering what kind of hardware all you cubicle warriors (I know you are out there) - are supplied with from your work place?

After dragging a Lenovo T60 around for ages, I finally got a Lenovo T420 - and just working in Excel alone I think I have gotten an extra 30-45 minutes of productive time out of my day (which of cause is split 50-50 between actual work, and GB).

But what do you guys have to cope with in your cubicles for 8 1/2 hours a day?

Those are beta related issues. The real concern is the dueling UI conventions and just overall odd UI design. That's why I'm personally skipping from Win 7 to Win 9.

As far as I know, MS are so invested in Metro, that I would be very surprised if Win 9 will not be with Metro too.

Do like me (also stuck in a dreary office job) - buy yourself a old 35mm SLR camera, and a bunch of B&W film - first of you can tick off the "hobby part" - but also you will instantly have random people come over to ask into what that strange camera is.

Now you have a hobby and you have a great chance to meet new people.

Used it for almost 1 month - however I do find the UI very counter intuitive though. I just can't get used to not have my start menu (screw the bottom left icon - just give me that small menu).

I can see how this will be great for tablets - but beside that - I would like to be able to disable Metro for my desktop - I hope that will become possible when released.

I almost always get some kind of vouchers along with the stuff I buy from Amazon.co.uk (mostly games, electronics and lately 35mm film gear) - however I have spent a lot of money with those guys :/

None of them have been 2 for 1 game stuff - but lots of 5/10£ vouchers - which I can use on most items they have.

Ireland is amazing, the nature and the people here is well worth the dirt cheap flights available from London > Dublin.

Also a day or two in Denmark is something I know many foreigners find quite interesting. Denmark is very down to earth, and then Scandinavia as a whole is the pinnacle of democracy and freedom of speech. Keep in mind that all the Scandinavian capitals are expensive.

If any of these in some shape or form has any interest to you, do say - and I will provide you with additional suggestions about what to see/do there :)

Before I moved to Ireland, I was somewhat of a audio geek - however I do not have the room for anything like this at the moment. When I return to Denmark, I will pick it up again for sure.

A few pictures of one of my projects dating back a few years.

@Akvavit: How much of an RTS element is there? Classic base building, resource gathering and research, or more of the Dawn of War/C&C4 style with hero units and very focused/small scale combat groups? Personally I'm pretty tired of the tower defense genre, but if the RTS part of this is strong enough I'll certainly check it out.

There is resource gathering - Oil, as per the title - but it is obtained by holding oil rigs. Research is there, not super advanced though - 3 short trees, and the points for these comes from killing enemies, taking structures etc. This research is reset on every map - so granted, it is not a game to get for deep/advanced research.

The amount of units you can have, is based on the amount of structures you are controlling - and the type of structure - e.g. heavy facture will spit out heavy units, this happens automatically - so you kinda have to get the most out of the units you get to your disposal.

Some of the structures can be extended with defences, 5 cannon slots, 2 main types, that can be upgraded to heavy/slow canons, AA guns, bunkers etc.

There is a tower defence hidden within the game, but only a few of the maps (I have only found one so far, and I think I am like 8 maps in) - are full on tower defence. I am not 100% sure which game to compare it to, as I have not been the big RTS man, since C7C Generals - so there might be some titles out there that is similar to this.
