Don't judge a game before it comes out. We've only seen a couple of trailers and some minor gameplay. Maybe it will be just another military shooter but hey, I haven't played it yet! I've been shooting stuff in fps games since the original Doom and I am still not tired of it...
As someone who played the original Mass Effect two weeks before the second one came out, I can definitely say it was worth it. A lot of people like to complain about a lot of aspects regarding the original game, and while some of those complaints are valid like the inventory system being rubbish, boring driving-sections and worthless side-missions, I still feel as if it has a lot to offer and in my mind it does some elements even better then the sequel. The game has a fantastic sense of atmosphere and superb dialog. Since it isn't as streamlined as the second outing exploring the Citadel (the Capitol of space!) is a much deeper experience.
Another aspect that I prefer with the original game over the sequel is actually the main storyline and the decisions that you as a player have to take. Mass Effect 2 had interesting characters but perhaps too many of them, which led to some being almost underdeveloped in a way since you really didn't care about them. Because of the smaller crew in the original you grew a lot closer to them, and as such the life-or-death decisions that you have to make have a greater impact then the ones in the sequel. In addition to that I actually prefer the storyline in the original over the one in Mass Effect 2 because it in my mind has a much more "epic" feel and does have a more satisfactory ending. The stakes are higher in the original and when you start to understand what's about to happen you really get caught up in the action.
Don't get mer wrong, both games are fantastic. Both of them lack certain aspects in my opinion, the first one has some fundamental problem with its core mechanics and the second one is a bit too streamlined and with a weaker main story (and execution). Buy both games and play them, you won't regret it!
It's always been this way, ever since I can remember. Gamers on the web are largely cynical and I guess that's par of the course by now. I remember when the Wii was first announced (Revolution back then), people went crazy saying it was a failure, dead-on-arrival, the death of Nintendo and so on. There will always be a very vocal minority that will never be happy no matter how a game or console pans out.
No way I'm buying this game. If they announce DLC characters already, 4 months (!) before the release then there is no excuse for not including them in the game. How the hell will this be balanced if not all players have a level playingfield? I don't like this at all and I won't pick this game up. I don't like getting shafted like that.
