Words escape me right now. Like a lot of you, I've loyally followed the whole GB crew since GameSpot and even earlier. I'm just some viewer, someone who couldn't have known him personally, and yet I feel like I lost family today. His good nature and love for life came through clearly in everything Ryan did, whether it was arguing the pros and cons of Coke Freestyle, making some of the best goddamn Quick Looks ever or being the best MC any podcast will ever know. There's nothing I could offer to his friends and family, no pain that words on a computer screen could heal, but my heart goes out to all of you. Ryan was one of my biggest inspirations to pursue entertainment journalism and someone I will never forget.

Thank you for untold amounts of laughter and awesomeness.

So, I've been rocking a Dante, Dormammu, Tron team and I'm starting to accept it as my "Main Team." I'm liking it so far, with Dante rocking the combos and keeping them guessing, Dormammu totally controlling space and having a sick DHC, and Tron is just ridiculous with her health and Gustaff Fire assist + some easy combos. As far as them working well together... I dunno. With Dormammu in 2nd I never have to worry about whiffing DHC, and having the Tron assist in the back gives him some cover. I'm just musing to myself, though I'll probably lurk some more later and see if anyone has experience/advice with/for this team. They're popular characters, but I don't know as I've ever seen them used together.

UPDATE: I'm finding it much easier to scrub it out with Taskmaster instead of Dante. D: Looks like people are starting to realize how ridiculous Dormammu can be in tournaments...

@SpecialBuddy: I wasn't aware of it. Guess I should be lurking SRK more. Thanks for the input!

A.K.A. The only thing happening in Arkansas.

 Ar2
 Ar2

We're planning a tournament, Arkansas Armageddon, slated for June 27th in Bentonville, Arkansas. So far we're still just a club run out of the local community college, but we're looking at potential sponsors and venues in hopes of growing into something significant. We're also poking into the legality of cash prizes and other incentives. To the best of my knowledge, video games =/= not games of chance = cash prizes totally legal. In that case, a $5 entry fee with cash pot is completely feasible. The more people that show interest and can come, the higher the stakes'll get. Anyone is welcome and there are many fairly nice hotels in Bentonville, but I'd advise against paying a lot of money in hopes of making it back, at least this first year. It's planned as a one all day event. Food will be free!

Schedule:

1v1

Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition, Mortal Kombat 9,
Marvel vs Capcom 3, Super Smash Bros. Brawl,
Tekken 6

2v2

Halo: Reach

Fighting games will be played on PS3, so take that into consideration when bringing sticks or controllers. (Converter lag made me decide against buying one.) Reach will be played on two 360s on two opposite facing TVs. Also scheduled is a Zelda speed run contest with OoT 3DS as a prize. More details will come to light at the event.

Time: June 27th, 10 AM to Finish

Location: Northwest Arkansas Community College's Student Center, 1 College Drive, Bentonville, Arkansas

Last Day to Enter: June 15th

Email EternalAvalon@gmail.com to enter. Entry fees will be collected at the door.

For those more visual, tl;dr, here's a trailer-ma-jig I made.

Feel free to ask me any questions, or make suggestions. Both are appreciated. = ) This tournament's been in the works for roughly 2 years and every effort is being made to make it the most professionally run gaming event in the area. The local competition is no slouch, either, with a fair number of Tekken, Smash Bros, and Halo players itching for a challenge. We want to give the area and those around us the environment it needs to grow as a competitive community.

Absolutely enjoyed the single player, just started the co-op and I'm loving it. No disappointment here.

Zangief is probably the one I'm best/most confident with so I voted for him, but if I could be godly with any character, it'd probably be Sakura or Makoto. Juri and Akuma get plenty of play, too.

I really hope they add something significant. Updated graphics and Move support would be nice. The Wii version plays like a dream... er, nightmare?

I literally know five people in my area that own and actively play on PS3. The vast majority own 360's. I'm almost tempted to get a 360 just because my (borrowed) game library would triple. Kinda like the avatars (Home is terribad) and interface (PS3 is pretty bare bones, but effective), and would like to play Shadow Complex and Halo, too. The people on my PSN friends list are better at fighting games than pretty much everyone living here, though, so it's not really a big deal for me. I've heard people claim better (or at least more good) players are on 360, but I'm getting destroyed just fine on PS3. I've had some smooth and intense games in MvC3 and other games with fairly strict timing on my wireless, so connection hasn't been an issue. Still debating whether it's worth it when I already have a PS3 and a decent PC. I'd say I'm satisfied with both, but the 360 is still a pretty sexy piece of kit.

I'm not a pro player, but I can tell you the obvious. You won't get any better unless you buy it and play it. A lot. Pulling off combos in a controlled environment is a sign that you have a good handle on timing and such, but there are things you can only learn through experience and experimentation. It also takes some focus. Find a team that works well and stick with it.

I'd like to see more players trying to COUNTER Dark Phoenix and Sent instead of desperately trying to kill them first and screwing themselves, even if that means turtling the fuck up. Can't be impossible. Haven't run into either used properly, though. I'm still working my way up. I personally like the added options and the increased chance of ridiculous comebacks.
