Hey everyone. I was just reading the reports on the new Tomb Raider movie and it got me thinking, when are we going to get movies based on the games industry. Hollywood has done films based on other indusrties, for example:
Boogie Nights-Porn Industry
Wall Street-Finance
Wag the dog-media and politics
At the moment Hollywood seems obsessed with game adaptations but do you guys think there is a place for a movie/movies based on events in the game industry? Key moments i can think of that could make great films are:
West/Zampella VS Activision
Gerstmann-gate
Sony vs GeoHot, Anonymous and other hackers
So do you guys have any other events that could make for great films?
What genre would they occupy?
When would we see the first industry movie? 5-10 years or sooner?
SOS: The final escape(Disaster report in the states) -its a disaster game with interesting mechanics and gameplay ideas despite some problems. I was really disappointed when i heard disaster report 4 was cancelled.
If you want smart discussions about the industry I strongly recommend the gamers with jobs podcast. It is a really mature podcast and their discussions are often enlightening and mind-opening. You can find it here: http://www.gamerswithjobs.com/podcast
1. war of the monsters- Monsters destroying cities and beating the crap out of each other. What's not to love?
2. I noticed you don't have the warrior within for your prince of persia collection. I think you should get it. Despite the critics moaning about the 'emo' prince i think the platforming is as good as ever and they tried to expand on the combat with more combos and different moves.
P.S
kudos for owning
1.psi-ops, that game was really fun and really deserves a sequel. It did telekinesis better than any star wars game IMO.
2. Shadow of the colossus- One of my favourite games ever. ignoring the games as art thing, this game succeeds on many more levels. It is a great action game(see colossus 13), most games today would leave such instances to cutscenes or quick time events. The horse riding is fun and i love the compass mechanic. A great game.
