@thatonedudenick: Like it or not, it's in Giant Bomb's wheelhouse as a journalism website (and also natural human reaction) to comment on the political climate that influences the development of all creative media, including games. GB's willingness to take on current events head-on is the reason I've been a subscriber for 7-odd years.

TLDR; Games in general have been political for decades now, homie.

You can't really say "Keep politics out of it" when Ubisoft ran a marketing campaign that screamed "Look at us, we're putting real-world politics into our game!"

(Even if they completely walked back that stance before release.)

I agree totally, the "Keep games apolitical" thing is silly, life is political! It's what you realize in adulthood, and yes it sucks, I wish I could go a day without getting upset about something in political world that isn't going how I want, but that's life and games will often reflect that. The absence of political statements in a game is itself a political statement.

I thought games were trying to tell a story like other modern forms of media. Not every story has to have a political point, look at zelda or any nintendo game from the last decade.

Did you think that about Far Cry 5?

Full Metal Jacket is my favorite Kubrick. 2001 and The Shining both don't jive for me because I read those books before seeing the movies. 2001 as a movie adaptation of the book is acceptable, mostly, except for the ending. The book ending of 2001 actually makes sense instead of being the ever so mysterious bullshit the movie ended on. As for The Shining, I thought Kubrick butchered the original story.

2001 is not an adaptation of the book, they were created alongside each other. It's not really an adaptation of The Sentinel, either.

They both share an outstanding concept, but the movie gets all the buzz because 2001 was a much further departure from existing film than the book was from existing sci-fi novels.

As a staunch Dan defender, at this point I refuse to believe to he's not actively trolling.

Vinny didn't catch it, and this isn't the only game where they can't read UI text very well. I think the East studio just isn't an ideal setup for UI-heavy KB/M PC games.

At this rate I'm not sure the aliens will bother putting the commander in a stasis suit.

Watching this while eating turned out to be pretty dangerous. It almost went bad for me when they started moving Jeff's eyes.

It's the blatantness of just lifting PUBG and dropping it into your own product, it just leaves a bad taste. Esp when that product was and is a clusterfort without the lift. On the other hand, ascribing romanticised feelings to video game products over inspiration and ownership of design mechanics is dumb, let the market decide.

Also that PUBG licensed their engine, and they turned around and put PUBG in their game for free. They are well within their rights to do so but it just looks bad.

Take a shot every time Abby calls Dream Daddy a "very good game".

She's got a fucking point about it versus Nier in the Zelda discussion though.

It didn't affect the top 3, but they sold Yakuza short by not playing any battle music.

Love this series. But now for the Rykening.

Should I get XCOM 2 (ps4)? I remember hearing that it had something akin to time limits during battle and that pretty much killed my interest. Is that the case or did I just mishear?

Some missions had fairly tight time limits in the original release, but the expansion added an option to double them which makes them trivial. I think it's in the base game too.
