@ahoodedfigure: Best point to decide if the game's for you is the Draracle's Cave. You'll either get completely lost or start to really dig the game's puzzles.
This is opposed to Dungeon Master 2, where I just felt lost almost all the time.
@buzz_clik: I wanna say "dragon" as a keyword, but maybe that's because I'm playing too much Skyrim.
Also, pshaw, you have plenty of followers who probably check these things out. I think people don't comment much because they can't think of anything to post beyond "that's a rad SID tune". I know I ran out of interesting things to say some time ago.
Really like the first one. There were always some crazy stuff going on in the demo scene. Atari ST had a lot of that going on too, they showed up alongside the usual game demos and shareware all the time (because of its MIDI support? I think?).
@Sparky_Buzzsaw: Oh, it was a very necessary quick cash-in. This was a couple years after the Final Fantasy movie, which lost them around $90,000,000. That they didn't go beyond the stripper transformation sequences and sexy masseuse mini-games is almost admirable, given their desperation.
@Contro: This was my point more or less, thanks for putting it in a more succinct way. I do appreciate the amount of detail gone into Skyrim though. Who doesn't love fighting dragons alongside vikings? Tough call.
@Animasta: It's fairly close with the world traversal, side-questing and the combat to an extent. There's no license grids or gambit system (AI characters seem to operate intelligently enough though). I've had some pretty interesting sidequests so far that use the game's clairvoyance gimmick to predict outcomes based on decisions I could make. I'm really only in the early game still, even after some ten hours in, so take any appraisal I have right now with a grain of salt.
@ArbitraryWater: Yeah, sorry for the slightly aggressive call-out I guess, but FFX-2 is just an example of a JRPG I occasionally felt a little embarrassed to play (mostly the J-Pop cutscenes than anything else). Like Fighters and Shmups, their ongoing marginalization from mainstream gaming has caused a lot of oddly pandering and occasionally vaguely pornographic titles to start showing up, if those haven't always been around to some degree. But now I'm on Psycosis' case, so I'm just going to stop typing words now.
The first Lands of Lore was pretty much the pinnacle of those four-directional dungeon crawlers with that sort of older pixel art style. I always screw up and choose the fighter though, when you really need a mage to get anywhere. The later ones if I recall were the then ubiquitous Elder Scrolls type panoramic first-person experience, with some slightly dubious FMV work. Such was the fate of most CD-ROM titles of the era, for better or worse. It's a good double pack though.
Someone needs to tell Dave and Vinny about this. I'd love to see a Random PC Game stream of either LoL.
@TeflonBilly: Yeah, tell me about it. As well as beating these three at some point I've also got Saints Row, Assassin's Creed, Skyward Sword and possibly Rayman Origins and Super Mario Land 3D to try out before the end of this year. It's kind of insane.
Don't forget we have the Black Friday Steam sale too. I think I'll be set for a long while. Even if all I'm planning to buy this time is Wizorb, if it shows up in time.
Also, when did I tell you to order Undergrads dude? You must have got it confused with my adoration of Clone High.
