@bemusedchunk: That does put things in perspective, no offense. I'm just getting those heebie jeebies when you know you're slacking of days are over and shit is about to get real. That might pass and I put this whole thing in the back burner for a couple more years until I have some money saved, some more experience and actually visited NY.

Good luck to you duder.

@SpartyOn: That is not encouraging at all. Plus Frisco being the second most expensive city in the US is also a disappointment. Thanks for the article.

@Swoxx: But wait, if you know the truth does that mean you're the one writing my story, which is actually your story. So I'm a fictionalized version of you ... or .... we're acting like fools on the internet.

We'll never know .... *twilight zone theme*

@Swoxx: That's not bad. It's the exact opposite, he couldn't write in NY but wrote his best, or worst depending on the point of view, in Bright Falls. Fuck .... meta, so I'm Alan Wake stuck in Bright Falls trying to write himself into NY?

@Spankmealotus: I'll actually do that, maybe spend a week or two there, get a feel for the place.

@Dagbiker: I don't doubt you. It's just I've watched The Wire and read David Simon's books. Plus there was this quote that said IF Baltimore's murder rate was applied to New York, that would mean around 1000 murders a week, or something like that. But maybe that was in the nineties and in the aughts.

@Carryboy: Why because you're doing swell? Thanks a lot now I'm conscious about my crappy life, fuck you. (j/k) Why wouldn't you win the lottery? I have no objections towards that. Best of luck to you too duder.

@GrantHeaslip: I know, right? It's just certain places that you just know you'd feel right at home. Even if the conditions were less then favorable. It's the place you feel home. And yeah, I know I am over mystifying NY, but "it" hits people in different ways. Maybe I do need to look at the bigger picture, maybe it's more the interesting people aspect that is attracting me rather then the city itself.

Let's just go find our respective homes, yeah shit might not be easy from the get go, but we gotta try.

@Zelyre: Poo poo away, I allow it. I think the problem of my thread was I was to optimistic, but you guys are being to drastic. I also didn't elaborate because if I were to do that it'd just be a wall of text no one would read. I might have overly simplified it. But you are right, money will be the key. I feel like the $1500 a month plus some more for a metaphorical bat grappling hook to make a swift escape in case I do need it IS without a doubt the way to go. About writing, I'm not kidding myself, let's be honest "making it" is rare. But there are other levels of "making it."

You're friend might be in a shitty place right now but there is a part of him that is fucking ecstatic he got published. When he pulls through, he'll have surpassed one of life's hardships. He's just another artist shedding blood, sweat and tears ... and money for his craft. Best of luck to him and thank you for the advice.

@mtcantor: Yeah yeah, I'm talking about moving to NY not Greece. I'm not being snappy, you're right but we can't keep living in fear of the big bad economic crisis. I might be coming off as naive, but that argument is pretty much paralyzing most of society.

@mutha3: I could go to a community college in NY, how about that? Get to know some people in similar situations, maybe even some that were in that situation and overcame it.

@stinky: Thank you so much, it's good to get some encouragement in this sea of negativity. I get it's not going to be easy. But if you don't take some risks ... shit gets stale.

@BraveToaster: Problem is I'd end up getting a degree on English Literature or Astrophysics. Which would be interesting, but utterly useless in short term.

@Bocam: You're the second guy saying that ... it's pissing me off a little. Not because of what is being said, but because of the lack of explanation. Also I'm writing on a forum, I think that excuses me from not using Shakespearean prose.

@WINDWAKER1: Thank you so much for the first two paragraphs, I needed that. Most duders seem to think I'd end up in a body bag of sucking dick to buy a bag of chips. Bunch of negative nancies(j/k) It would be a really good life lesson, even if I fail. I need that, I need to live a little more, get outside my comfort zone.

About the last paragraph, you're right ... I just get this idea that I should be set for life by the time I reach 30 otherwise I might as well go live under a bridge. Which of course isn't true, but I do need to a drastic change to kick things into overdrive, otherwise I'll most likely mooch of my parents forever and wake up one day with a wasted life and nothing to show for myself.

@TehBuLL: I've lived by myself already. It didn't work because it was in a worse country then the one I currently am, for three years. I am rushing things along a bit, I do admit that, but when I realize the inaction in my life. I fear if I don't snap out of it and do something drastic, I'll just stay on cruise control for the rest of my life.

@Sooty: You know mount Fuji where the crowds of shaolin monks gather to sing lullabies for King Caesar, so he doesn't wake up and trash the place.

Man, walking in crowds, that's a goddamn science right there.

@Sooty: Is it like Japan where there is the flow and you need to be on the right side otherwise it's impossible to move?

@Panpipe: There you go, someone that gets me. Fortune favors the bold. What's the worst thing that can happen? End up knife fighting hobos for a cardboard box? Having my dead body dumped into the Hudson? .... Wait, those sound bad.

@Sooty: No, I was just joking. I know how crazy crowded it is.

@tachyon: I do hold NY in this heavenly pedestal, but I'm aware it's still a city. If I take one thing out of these thread is not to go blindly into it. Another city might not be a bad idea. Boston seems nice, I think I'd like the weather.
