I'm pretty sure that summons will just pause the Doom counter, not cancel it (so while the Summon is out, the timer won't decrease. But as soon as the summon goes away, the counter will start going down again).
Whenever I earn a trophy, I'll look it up in my trophy collection just to see what I did to earn it. Otherwise, I don't really look at the trophies until I've beaten the game (then I'll go back and look at what trophies are available and figure out which ones I want to get).
