How's my Christmas List?

  • A new laptop
  • Left 4 Dead 2 (Xbox 360)
  • Dragon Age: Origins (Xbox 360)
  • Microsoft Points

It's an incredibly small list, probably the smallest I've ever had. I actually feel bad about not having a large list. Christmas is the best opportunity I have for getting stuff without feeling guilty about my parents paying for it...

So is this a good list?

Gaming Update #13: No One Loves Me & Neither Do I

Oh, hello there. My name is natetodamax, and this is the return of my weekly blog. I said I would be back on the 20th, but I was basically without a computer at the time, so it was delayed to now! Let's get to it!

What I've Been Playing

Since my birthday was November 20th, I got two games. Modern Warfare 2 (which I actually got on the 11th) and Borderlands. Both games are FANTASTIC.

First up is Modern Warfare 2. I don't think I've ever been so excited for a game before. I remember at the beginning of the year when I saw that the release date was November, and just thinking about how far off it was. It's hard to believe that the game is now sitting in my Xbox. Modern Warfare 2 improves on Call Of Duty 4 in so many ways that, just as the great Jeffrey Gerstmann stated, the latter just seems obsolete. The single player campaign, despite facing criticism for being short and having a wonky plot, is amazing from start to finish. Anyone playing through the entire game in one sitting will likely suffer from murder exhaustion, but taking it slow like I did and doing one or two missions a day helps to enhance the experience. I do agree, however, that the plot has more holes in it than the guy I shot last match with a light machine gun. It just doesn't make any sense. However, there are several dark plot twists throughout that left me speechless, and that's a good thing. Also, Veteran difficult is MUCH easier this time around. The enemies no longer spam grenades at you every second!

So how's the multiplayer? Think of it this way: It takes everything that made CoD4 so great and enhances it in every way. It's great.

Oh, and a few users and I are totally working on a Modern Warfare 2 Mega Guide at the moment, if you didn't already know

And next we have Borderlands. I had high hopes for this game as most of you probably know, and I am not disappointed. That game just has so much style that it's hard to not recommend. The combat feels great, and playing with a buddy over LIVE is one of the funnest things you can do. I have a blast exploring caves and busted up towns looking for loot and weapons; although most of the weapons you'll find are poor quality, it's still a great feeling looking down and seeing that stat window pop up showing you how good (or bad) said weapon is. Despite the game being a lot more fun in coop, playing solo is still entertaining. I actually spend most of my time going at it alone, due to there being some lag when playing with more than one other person. However, that could be just because we have Comcast, which is the worst internet service I've ever seen.

What I Want To Play

 Do want
 Do want
Since I have the two games I've been most excited for, it's time to take a look at the others. On my Christmas list, I have listed: Left 4 Dead 2, Assassin's Creed 2, and Dragon Age: Origins. If I had to choose just two, I'd probably go with the former and the latter. AC2 looks good, but I've heard some "meh" things about it, such as the combat being not much better than the previous game's combat. This turned me off a bit, because for my the first Assassin's Creed's combat was the most frustrating aspect of the game.

I'm also excited for Final Fantasy XIII, which is probably weird for a 15 year old to get excited for (unless you live in Japan...)

Just a heads up

I'm putting the Gaming Update series on a hiatus, probably till the week of November 20th where I'll most likely have a plethora of games to talk about. Thanks.

Question Of The Day Response - 10/24

From the Quick Look, the facebook integration looks pretty crappy. Last.fm looks cool however, as long as I can listen to some Queens Of The Stone Age! Can't say anything about Twitter because I don't use it anymore.

This is great

This is a tale explaining the manner in which My way of life was rotated along a Y axis until it reached a position roughly 180 degrees from that which it started If I could have 60 seconds of your time, simply place your posterior in the selected location And I will relate to you the details of how I was made the male monarch of the district of the City of Los Angeles, California commonly referred to as Bel-Air (coordinates 34.08333 -118.44778)

In the western region of the “City of Brotherly Love” known as Philadelphia my mother expelled me from her womb and indeed that is also where I spent my childhood in my mother’s care The majority of my time was spent in a recreational area containing such diversions as a jungle gym, swing set, sand box, etc. I was typically at the height of leisure while frequently at a temperature slightly below what might be considered standard room temperature Outside of my educational institution I was engaging in a game of basketball with some of my friends When a couple of gentlemen who seemed to be of the disposition to cause a great deal of mischief Began causing a great deal of chaos and disharmony in the area in which I lived I was involved in one rather small bout of fisticuffs after which my mother became concerned for my general safety and well-being And she informed me that I would be moving in with her sister and her sister’s husband in the previously mentioned community of Bel-Air I implored my mother to relent approximately 24-48 hours ago

Yet she gathered my belongings in a somewhat flat, rectangular shaped piece of luggage and expelled me from her presence She placed her lips upon my cheek in an affectionate manner and handed me a pre-purchased pass for public transportation I placed the headphones for my personal music system into my ears and verbalized the idea that I may as well impact this situation with my foot Traveling in the highest available level of comfort, this is indeed an unfortunate situation (although I make this statement with some irony) Consuming the juices obtained by the squeezing of the fruit of a Citrus sinensis from a piece of glass stemware commonly reserved for the sipping of sparkling wine originating from the Champagne region of France I pause to wonder if this is indeed how the residents of the admittedly upper-class neighborhood of Bel-Air commonly live Indeed I find this situation may be rather to my enjoyment I puckered my lips and exhaled forcefully to produce a shrill note in order to gain the attention of a taxicab driver and as the driver approached I observed his California vanity plate which in place of the traditional jumble of alpha-numeric characters, used only the letters F, R, E, S, and H, spelling out the word “fresh” and from his rearview mirror dangled a pair of oversized, fur-covered cubes decorated to look like the six-sided dice commonly used in gambling and board games

In such a situation I could have made a statement about the unusualness of this particular taxicab to the point of it being nearly unique Instead I cogitatively decided against it and instead informed the driver that he should deliver me to what was to become my new home in the community of Bel-Air We pulled up to a large domicile sometime between the hours of 7 and 8 o’clock And in a loud tone of voice I informed the cab driver that at some undetermined point in the future I would again detect his odor through my sense of olfaction I gazed about the region of land that I was destined to rule, reflecting on my arrival Where I would claim my rightful place upon the throne, from which I would govern the community of Bel-Air as monarch.

Gaming Update #12: A Prestigious Entry

Author's Note: I've been having immense problems trying to get this blog up due to Comcast being stupid. Don't ever get Comcast. Ever. If you have it right now, cancel it. Eventually I'll add images, but for right now just enjoy it for what it is. Images will be up either later tonight or tomorrow. This blog took me about an hour to write. It's short, but most of my time was spent trying to get the images that were in here formatted correctly.

Ladies and gentleman, welcome to the 12th edition of my weekly Gaming Update series. I didn't play many games this week because my grandma has been visiting.

Yesterday we visited Washington DC for the second time. We spent a lot of time at the National Air and Space Museum, which was way cool. We saw a lot of planes from the olden days and space related equipment. Among the coolest things there was the capsule that Lance Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, and that other guy were in when they landed on the moon, the space suit worn by one of them (complete with moon dust on it), the Wright brother's fight airplane, the fastest planes EVAR, a replica of the Skylab, multiple satellites that were in space, the suit worn by John Glenn and Yuri Gagarin, Apollo 11, and other interesting thingys. After exploring every inch of that place, we walked around DC in the 40 degree weather and took some pictures in front of the White House. We then made our long trek back to our vehicle, which took quite a while because we were so far away. We were going to ride up the Washington Monument, but they were out of tickets. :( We had a great time.

What I've Been Playing

I managed to play some Oblivion this week, and that game continues to be amazing. My Dark Elf is currently level 17 and I've been spending my time doing some side quests, exploring caves, and shutting down Oblivion Gates. Something I continue to notice is how great the graphics are. I love how Bethesda uses vibrant shades of green for the grass and trees, bright blue for the sky, and stark white for Ayleid ruins that you come across while exploring. The game just looks fantastic, even if it's 3 years old. Seriously, if you haven't played that game, do it now. Natetodamax commands you.

I also reached 10th Prestige, Level 55 in CoD4, something that I must say I am proud of. It took me 15 days, 7 hours, and 11 minutes of game time to reach this milestone. w00t!

What I Want To Play

*sigh*...... I'm starting to lose interest in Borderlands. I don't know why. I think it's because that I was so hyped for the game, and I got disappointed when I saw that the reviews for it were good and not amazing. I'm sure it's a great game but.... I don't know. Agh. Left 4 Dead 2 and Modern Warfare 2 are getting closer and closer, and I cannot wait. Those games are destined to be awesome.

Song Of The Week

I heard this song from a Youtube video demonstrating mods for Left 4 Dead on the Xbox version. It's a beautiful song that everyone should listen to.

Site Shenanigans

I'm getting closer to becoming one of the top posters on Giant Bomb. I only need about 50 or so posts to make it. Cool beans. Also, I started working on a forum specific guide a few days ago. I'm not saying anything about it yet, but it should be EPIC. I even made a lot of progress on my Left 4 Dead Versus Guide. HOPEFULLY I'll finish that soon. It's been in the works since May >_>

And that concludes this week's Gaming Update. Anyway I hope everyone had a great week!

Until next time, children.
