street fighter 4 thoughts after 20 hours from newcomer

This is an excellent game however, I have one slight problem. Sometimes when I am playing, I want my character to do a certain move at a certain time but instead he/she does something completly different or just a normal punch. This I partly blame on my myself because I really cannot beat anyone online in street fighter. However, I also blame it on my controller. I can't always pull off moves at the time I want to and if your playing with Sakura, timing and combos are important. It's getting frustrating that I have been playing over 20 hours and out of 120 fights I have only been able to win 32.

I could not enjoy street fighter 2 hd remix because of its unbelievable difficulty (both online and offline). I feel street fighter 4 is more leniant offline but online, I dont know why I cant beat anyone. So I don't know whether I should be frustrated at the game or I should be frustrated at my own inability.

I would imagine after 20 hours with any game that I would get better but Im not winning anything. I can't go further deep into the trial mode because im performing complex combos with a controller that is incapable of such precise timing. The medium punch--> hadoken still kills me.

So I feel that some of these problems would be fixed if I got the SF4 fight stick tournament edition but those are unbelievably hard to find and way too expensive. I originally thought I was going to get it for my birthday but I suppose I should buy it for myself for my birthday when I can find them.

Street fighter 4 thoughts from newcomer

So, to start off with, I have logged in something like 4-5 hours so far with SF4. I have only been using two characters so far, Ryu and Sakura, because I wanted to specialise with these two fighters.

I have tried to play as much of it as I can and overall, I must say that it is a fun game. This is definetly a game where I feel that I want to get better at. Even the process of learning is a lot of fun in itself (except the challenege mode which I will get into).
The arcade mode is fine, I have only managed to complete this on the easiest difficulty, which should give you an indication of where my SF4 skill lies. I tried to complete SF4 with Sakura on very easy but I only managed to get to the second from last fight before losing multiple times. About the arcade mode, if you ever want to finish it, turn the option for people online to fight you during arcade mode off. I can't even remember the amount of times i had to repeat the first fight again, and again just because "a new warrior has entered the ring".

Since I am a newcomer to the whole SF thing, I decided to try the challenege mode where you go through a number of challeneges which teaches you each characters moves and combos that you can perform. This is fine in theory but man, this mode is severly lacking. Why is it so difficult for me to do a medium punch --> hadoken? I spent a good 30 minutes with Ryu, in challenge mode, trying to perform medium punch to hadoken and it is damn near impossible. I remember having a similar problem with sakura. I believe sakura was either medium punch-->hadoken or high punch--> hadoken. Either way, its just impossible to perform. The reason why I want to perform them is because I want to learn about the characters that I am using. If somebody could enlighten me on this then I would be very happy. This mode could have been solved not by just pressing select and showing what button does what, but by showing a little tutorial video on timing. Just a video with the correct timing would have been enough to teach me how to do these moves. Instead, im sitting there for 30 minutes doing medium punch hadoken, and its not registering. The medium punch registers but not the hadoken. Dammit im getting frustrated just thinking about it. Even finding good information on the internet is a pain although that could just be because the game has just recently come out. I'll give it some time before the challenge mode for each character appears on youtube.

The only other reason I can think of for my constant failure is the control on the xbox 360. I am using the stick since im more comfortable using that than the dpad. Sometimes the character does not do what I tell them to do. I find that pulling off an ultra is way to hard sometimes and it is my attempt in doing ultra and failing that loses me the match in the end. Maybe this will be rectified when I get the street figheter 4 arcade stick tournament edition for the 360 on my birthday. March couldn't come sooner enough.

Online is very good although I have just been getting beat. Its fast, smooth and nothing I can really complain about. I really want to be good at this game so I can have some good matches. I suppose its just practice, practice, practice which I intend to do alot of because its fun. I do wish I had a friend that liked Street fighter instead the typical Pro evo or Fifa but hey, this is England.

Anyway, although there are alot of improvements that can be made in the challenge mode, overall this is a very fun game and I would recommend it to newcomers. Just as long as you have the time and patience to be good at it.

Okami

So I just completed Okami yesterday. Man, the only dissapointed from that game is that there wont be a sequel. That game was amazing in everyway. The graphics even hold up till this day which is just unbelievable. The story it told, it was just excellent. What a game. Okami is on a league that is completly different to Zelda. Yes, its inspiration was zelda, but it even went beyond those games and showed nintendo how it should be done.

The music of the game is still stuck in my head, I need to buy the soundtrack asap.

Anyway, my contender for the game of the year 2009 as well as persona 3

Persona 3

I managed to complete persona 3 a few days ago and man. That was one heck of an awesome game. Im actually sad that i completed it. That game is huge. I spent just under 120 hours in it. I took the time to get my characters to level 99 which is the first time I have ever had the desire to do that in any rpg game.

Due to this enthusiasm I had in leveling up my characters, the end boss and other bosses became alot easier to beat. I loved that feeling that I was just overpowering these bosses that everyone was having trouble with.

I loved how this game ended, just pure brilliance. I can't wait for persona 4 (im in the uk so I have to wait). I should have gotten persona 4 when I was in Japan. Ah nevermind.

machinarium

I have only just discovered this game from Kotaku and man, I am impressed by the direction they are taking with the look of the game. It just looks unbelievably amazing. It looks so different and gorgous. the "this and this game has better graphics" argument does not apply here. Its just a totally different look to your "im all realistic and grey" type of game. This game I need to try out myself. Its good that its on the PC as point and click games work best there. I need to find a release date for this. Need to see if this is in the giantbomb database!

Nintendo, nintendo

With the latest from nintendo is that there wont be any core titles until a very very long time. Certainly not to be released by early 2009. I personally do not believe that they are serious on that front. Then again, I don't see why they should be. I mean, look at brain age. For 80 weeks it has been in the top 10 best selling titles. 80 weeks today in fact. Who knows how long that will continue for.

The only time i play with the wii now is when my sister wants to play mario kart wii. To be fair, I do want to get on with playing okami but I just cant motivate myself to do it when I have persona 3.

Seriously though, my 360, ps2 and ps3 are getting tons more playtime than the wii. Its sad really. I was really looking forward for this "revolution" when the wii hit store shelves. Im not giving up on nintendo "now" as that happened a while back. This has further cemented my view on nintendo. I mean, even if they did have some core titles coming out in the far future, what is there that I can get from now until then? nothing, nothing comes to mind.

nintendo, nintendo...

progress persona 3

So I'v been trying to play as much persona 3 as I can. I have just got onto the 4th block and im fighting the first boss of the block.

I'm loving this game at the moment, I cannot wait for persona 4. I also do not want to finish this game, I dont want it to end. Im not a dungeon crawler fan myself but this is truly exceptional.

Problem is, I got a cousin that hates this game and he lives in the same house as me. Whenever I'm playing it he insists that I change it to something better. hes not really a game fan and cannot comprehend why i like games so much. He's going back to Iran in 3 weeks time so that gives me allot of uninterrupted persona 3!

the process of learning japanese

So I have been studying Japanese for several months now, I think 4-5 months. It's now really starting to pay off as I am starting to understand what they are saying in Japanese films and anime. Granted there are subtitles but I have always wanted to know what they are saying without looking at subtitles. I know two and a half languages which are English, Farsi and Gilaki (north iran dialect, its like literally speakin a different language). I thought it would be nice to learn a 4th language. Much to my surprise, I have found it easy to learn japanese but I suppose thats because I payed for an audio program rather than reading off websites (which can be a borefest). Not just because of that, but its also because I wanted to learn Japanese. I have a deep love for the japanese language and I suppose thats whats been driving me. If you dont have the motivation, if you dont enjoy learning a new language, nothing will ever help you. I suppose that applies to everything though.

Back in the day I had to learn French in school. I tell you, I hated French. I despised it and yet I was still forced to learn it. As a consequence, I dont know anything more than bonjour. I suppose you dont do the things you like in school but still, if I could switch it to a language that I preffered then I would have passed languages. Maths, science, english, history, those things are mandetory. Even if you dont like them, you gotta learn them. They are essential skills for life. Perhaps something I would like to see introduced in schools is philosophy and culture. I know that it will never be introduced here in the UK. Too much religion here.

what was i saying? oh yea, right so Japanese learning. As long as you enjoy it, you'l get there.
