It's like a beautiful dream. The greatest RPG ever returns.

I'm stunned. Aparently, while I was sleeping, the universe answered all of my prayers. Well, not all of them, but one...

As I've often mentioned here when we have discussions about it, there are two titles that I always say I'd be willing to kickstart. An (Eric Chahi created) Out of This World sequel, or a proper RPG return to Shadowrun (SNES). Well, it looks like the latter may actually be coming true.

Original series creator, Jordan Weisman has come out with a kickstart project, to return ShadowRun to it's SNES/PC roots with a new turn-based RPG in the universe.

This is the greatest news in the history of the world.

****Update

el_tajij added this link to the KS page (and Jordan's video) below, it should really be up here. On top of it being the place to support the game, the video there just begs to be seen. Jordan has some awesome shit to say, and the clip of them pelting the FPS devs for what they've done to the franchise is worth the price of admission.

Watch the video on this and listen to the world Jordan Weisman describes. Holy mother effing jesus I hope this gets made.

@Fosssil: I agree wholeheartedly. I freaking loved that game, but it's use of the Shadowrun name really killed it's "hardcore gamer" cred like a shotgun to a pheasant. That said, I also love Shadowrun as a whole and I'm actually in the middle of reading The Burning Time.

some people in this thread seem to be talking like this is going to be like the snes game or is a remake of it or something along these lines... its not. Its a turn based tactical 2d rpg based on the pen and paper game, not necessarily based on the other console games made in the past.

I enjoyed the Snes game a lot. But its true that the genesis game delivered a truer shadowrun experience at the time and still stands as the best video game adaption of the pen and paper game thus far.

@DeF: making it for tablets means they aren't focused on one console (PC) and may have to cut features out of the game because they wouldn't be doable on the tablet. I dunno, I'm a hardcore PC gamer and have a pretty strong opinion when it comes to splitting a games project up amongst multiple systems. I would rather just focus on one (or 2 in the case of consoles) so you can do everything you want and not be limited what other versions of the game can do. Tablets seem fairly weak compared to modern day PCs. It just means we won't get a gme that is awesome looking I guess ...

I'm cool with a retro vibe but I never want to go back to turn based days ever - unless it's sweet Fallout turn based combat then ok, I'm done, go for the groin.

Guess you guys missed the part where he said "we want to make a game for tablets and PC" Sorry, your greatest RPG ever is going to suck fucking badly if they are making it for tablet.

I don't see how a tablet form factor could inhibit a turn based rpg. Would you care to expand on this?

Are you suggesting tablets won't be powerful enough? It's a 2D game, they've been saying that from the beginning. Tablets should be able to run it easily, with no compromises.

@Driadon: It really is one of the best examples I can think of where a great game was doomed to failure by absolutely horrific marketing. Mechanics-wise, the Shadowrun FPS is exceptional. Unfortunately, it was all but guaranteed to be a failure after they decided to shoehorn it into the Shadowrun universe (where it clearly didn't belong) and in doing so anger an existing fanbase, instead of trying to make an original brand identity for the game. Also, the $60 price just crushed any chances it had of being an impulse buy for curious shooter fans. I can't help but think that it would have been a much bigger success as an XBLA release for 1200 or 1600 Microsoft points -- it would have been a perfect Summer of Arcade title.

Wow, just got back from my nightshift and it's 525k! Good work Shadowrunners!

Also, fair play to the guy who went in for $10, 000 and the 5 guys that went in for $2, 500!
