@planetfunksquad: Marcus Beer is not actually a parasite at all, while Phil Fish leeches publicity off of his friends in the games media. From the beginning, a flawed analogy, and as usual one that is as easily levelled at the accuser.

You still haven't justified how Fish is more of a parasite. All you said is that Marcus isn't, with no reasoning behind that statement. You can say that Fish is parasitic in his own way all you want, but that doesn't answer my question: How is a man who creates for a living more of a parasite than a man who talks shit about other peoples creations?

What the hell are you talking about? I'm not sure where that came from tbh.

The burden of proof obviously falls on the one making an accusation. I don't have to proof that Marcus Beer isn't a parasite, and the very claim is ridiculous.

What the fuck did I mean?! That squawking about the name is idiotic fyi. ;)

What I love about Suda games is their personality. You feel the passion, that is what I love about most niche Japanese games. That's why the criticism of this game offended me deeply, because it's clearly narrow-minded. These 'big publication' reviewers only see sexuality as one conformist way and the rest the wrong way, but that is false. They are free to think that the more generic, instantly gratifying Saints Row route is superior, but it's absurd to latch on social justice issues and claim that Suda's games are "creepy, gross."

Yes, it's childish, the main character is a goof. And the female characters are fairly two-dimensional. There's no agenda here! I do get the feeling this game is getting such a harsh backlash from critics because they disagree with the way it handles this tiny percentage of minigames and it astounds me. This year has not been good for games journalism!

Now I've vented, I'll read through this thread to decide when and if I get the game. Fingers crossed!

Marcus was more adult about things.

How is calling someone a wanker, with no provocation, in any way adult?

This thread is full of all kinds of stupid. The comments over at GT are even worse than the ones here. OP is right to say "fuck that guy". Maybe not in the way he said it, but I share the sentiment at least. What Marcus Beer is is a bullying parasite.

Fuck that guy.

Both acted inappropriately, but Phil Fish made Marcus Beer look positively mature by his overly-dramatic reaction. Phil Fish has been vitriolic for years on his Twitter and elsewhere, but he neither deserves an open letter full of childish innuendo and sexual insinuation. It goes without saying, but that is an even further degree of immature and childish.

Personally I consider Phil Fish a far greater parasite than Marcus Beer, but that's a story for another day and unlike OP, I don't go around making hate threads. I don't know why this horrible thread is allowed to stay open.

@dark: I enjoyed DmC, but even I have to admit the backlash against it was justified when the game failed to live up to Devil May Cry 4 in literally every way. Truth is, the average games enthusiast knows more about their craft than the average journalist. This creates an awkward disparity between what sells and who's the consumer.

The user reviews are in counter to what are felt to be overly-positive press reviews, I'd imagine. This is the kind of game where the reviewer should say up front a few things about what kind of person would like the game, but reviewers on this are for some reason just saying "go out and buy it," and attaching glowingly positive scores. This is not the kind of game that will appeal to most and that is why it's getting a big backlash. That's not going into how many games in the past have done everything this game has and more but received worse scores, for ostensibly no reason other than the story's "appeal." This game to me is nothing special, if you like it or love it fair enough, in my opinion it's derivative, short-lived and extortionately-priced. If it was given a lower score on average I wouldn't care, but I have seen literally hundreds of negative comments about how players felt tricked into buying this game because of vague reviews saying this was another Journey, when objectively it is hugely lacking by comparison.

To sum up the long spiel, this sort of thing only hurts the relationship between games press and gamers. I know next time I read a score for an indie game like this, I'll think twice before I consider a purchase. The trust is gone.

@abendlaender: No way! Mega Man is a rip on Astro Boy in the first place.

Copyright in Japan is tenuous at the best of times.

I am so hype for this project. It's sad we have to wait until 2015.

Marcus Beer and Phil Fish are just as bad as one another. Though to Beer's credit, he didn't quit his job and tell Phil Fish to kill himself, so I see him as the better man coming off of the controversy. Is the OP of this thread ten years old? That's what I get from his poor spelling and unwarranted hatred.
