I finally have a copy of Persona 4 #3: KING'S GAME WHAT THE HELL

Expect some spoilers.

Playtime: 50 hours and 4 minutes

Current Feelings: KING'S GAME WHAT THE HELL

That cut-scene could've easily been the worst thing about this game, but the voice actors did it for real and got hammered before the recording. Superb drunk acting, all of you. Having not watched more than 5 minutes of the Endurance Run, this and all the P3 crazytrain of references blew my mind, even though not all P3 memories were good. The game did highlight the good parts, at least.

A general question: I saved Naoto. Midterms are arriving this Friday. Is the case really that far from being solved? I wouldn't mind if the game went on for another 50 hours, but all this talk about the answer being far off tells me answers will arrive sooner than later. A simple yes or no, please. Maybe a rough estimate of how many more hours of gameplay are left. I am doing as many social links as possible, if that matters.

So, all I've been really doing is lavishing this game with praise, but I have few things:

- Social links for party members are great, but I wish they tied into the critical plotline. These guys are too important and too ingrained into everything that's going on in P4, and it bugs me when none of my party members acknowledge the things that happened when I hung out with him. I wish Chie and Yosuke would go absolutely batshit over the fact that I'm totally dating Yukiko now.

- Plothole. The Midnight Channel. How has this not become the center of a media circus? Everyone sees it, everyone acknowledges its existence (and if someone doesn't then that person is dumb) and it broadcasts everything me and my party members are doing inside the TV. The static filter during battles should be proof enough, but when I hear the roars of outside observers, then that just drives the point even more.

Other than that, lovely.

I beat the game 60 hours in, but you're still quite a ways away if you only just saved Naoto. You have 2-3 dungeons left depending on the ending you want to get.

If you've ever met the other party members that you didn't take with you, their social links will alter their dialogue. If you were dating Chie and Yukiko, and you ran into both of them in the dungeon, thinks can get awkward.

As for how far..... i finished the game on about 80 hours... The answers may or may not arrive.

If you get the bad ending, there's only 1 more dungeon left.  If you choose the path to the Normal Ending, there's 2 more dungeons left.  If you go for the True Ending, there's 3 dungeons left.  I finished the game in 67 hours on Normal and I agree with the Midnight Channel not being everywhere on the news and the police not knowing of its existence is rather dumb.  In P3, there was an excuse because everybody who was normal was unconcious during the Dark Hour but here, with the rumors circulating and the accessibility of seeing the Midnight Channel, you'd think it would not be such a secret.

But how do you know the actors got drunk for real before the recording?  To me, it sounded pretty fake.

That's what a good number of people have been saying. Although, that's alot of scenario's for the developers to flesh out. Even if that kind of idea was implemented in future Persona game's, I wouldn't see it being more than a minor change in the dialog.

I share this feeling. Not just the main party, all social links should be interconnected in some way. Even Vinny and Jeff just pointed out how inconsistent Dojima's actions are between his own s link and Nananko's link. The social link system is great but I think it needs some big adjustments for p5, if they want to keep fans interested.

Oh, and you're getting there. I'd say you're at about 75% right now.

@CommodoreGroovy: At least they'd be aware. Just that would make me happy. I think it'd be better if party member social links were scripted, pre-determined events, like Teddie's. I know this idea will get shit on by practically everyone, but if the developers need to control the flow character development like this, then fine, I'm all for it. I care way more for the story and characters than anything else in this game anyway.

And crap, I thought I'd never consider 15-20 hours of more playtime left to be too short.

You know what, I really doubt that the voice actors got drunk before they did the King's Game scene....

I was just glad the main plot wasn't pushing Yukiko or who ever on me like they did with Yukari. Damn I hate Yukari. But yeah, P5 better up the ante. I maxed out Kanji like immediately and found it really jarring how irrelevant his whole accepting himself s.rank 10 thing was to the way he acted in the main plot.

Sarcasm isn't easy to detect on an internet message board.

Especially when you sound so genuine about it and there's no hint that you're joking.

The in-dungeon chats between party members do take Social Links into account, often with humorous results. But I think it would be a bit more difficult to tie the Social Links into the actual story.

@LordAndrew: Non linear storyline, alternative courses depending on s-link. Even though I am not a big fan of this myself (at least all the previous times people were trying to accomplish that) I think this is pretty much the only way one could realize that.

The problem with thqat is that PS2 just can't handle it.  The more stuff you cram in the more has to ne kept in memory.   They could ahve forced the palyer to do certain SLinls first but that cuts down on player choice.

During the scene where you hear the audience, you're in the TV during the afternoon, so it can't possibly be the people watching it on the Midnight Channel. So who's laughing? I have no idea.

But yeah, otherwise it still seems weird that something broadcasting who is about to disappear wouldn't cause a bigger scene.

@FluxWaveZ: Not when the problem is RAM.  Keep in min that KoToR on the original Xbox couldn't be saved to the portable memory card because the saves got too big beause of al the relationship variables and flage that needed to be carried around.

@endaround: Well then I guess if Atlus is aiming to do more with the Persona franchise they kin of have an obligation to bring it to a next-gen console.

@Gahzoo: Apparently if you get Rise she gives you a lap dance.  I have not verified if that's true.

They mention later on that some people are apparently able to watch the Midnight Channel even if it's not raining. And maybe if it's not midnight as well, I don't know. It wasn't really a very convincing claim to begin with. :D

It suddenly got awkward.
