Do "M" games have no place on nintendo platforms?

GTA: China Town Wars was announced for the Nintendo DS at E3 '08. It looked to be a title that would help Nintendo branch out and grab a hold of the "M for Mature" market that Microsoft and Sony seem to be hogging up, also helping this cause was "Madworld" for the Nintendo Wii.

March '09 rolls along and GTA: China Town Wars is released to a very warm response from critics. China Town Wars was now getting off to a great start, that was, until the numbers for sales rolled out. The NPD group announced that the game had only sold under 90,000 units, far below many expectations.

This has me and allot of others wondering if Nintendo can really ne known as more than just a family friendly console and offer games for a more mature audience or if players decide that their just fine with Microsoft and Sony.

I wouldn't look too much into this since the game in question is a top down GTA game.  I mean most people who played Grand Theft Auto 4 probably do not own a DS in the first place.

Nintendo games are meant to be family friendly, all of there main franchises are all like that, mario, zelda, etc. I don't see it changing any time soon. Although To be honest I like those game's quite a bit more than the rated M ones.

The more mature people who still play their Wii bought the Madworld. Last I heard, Madworld didn't sell to great. What does that say about the Wii?

Rinse and repeat for the DS.

That's entirely up to the execs, I'd say. There's no reason a "family friendly" console can't also offer things for adults. I watch porn on the same computer I do my taxes.

Neither of those things are family friendly.

Should have said, "I watch porn on the same computer that my child watches porn."

I'd say the occasional Mature game has just as much a place on Nintendo consoles as any other. Maybe just not quite as many. GTA hasn't sold overly well, yet. It was also so poorly advertised, what did they expect? I saw one single commercial on television, and at the most 2 magazine pages. The sales will go up slowly as Valkyria Chronicles have as people learn of its existence.

Resident Evil 4 was originally a Gamecube exclusive and it became one of the console's most popular games, then again it was Resident Evil.

Resident Evil 4 is a great example... theres been others aswell. No More Heroes did fairly well for itself, selling enough to warrant Suda to go after a sequel.  Oh, not to mention Umbrella Chronicles, and the Wii edition of RE4.
