I really liked Return to Ostagar for the closure it gives to that sub-plot.
Awakenings isn't bad at all, although it'll probably exceed your budget as hinted above (I'm on PS3 so not sure about Live points).
Haven't gotten Shale myself, might do that sometime.

Your party members don’t make up your army so you wouldn’t have to have them around for that reason. As was said above, it’d be pretty mad trying to control all 8 of them at once with all   the pausing and strategy settings.    

"@Enigma777: I can't remember where, but i read that the dark ritual is the cannon ending. It makes sense if you ask me, just by the existence of awakening. I don't think they would have made it if the cannon ending was you dying. the whole part of making a new warden was just shoved in so that people who did sacrifice themselves could still play it. Everything about the expansion pack was made with your character living in mind.  but in the end i don't think you can play witch hunt if you die, I've played it and the whole thing is centred around your history with her. without spoiling it i can say that witch hunt was intended for the people who both romanced her and did the dark ritual.  "

Chose the templars as I felt it made the inner-city fights a bit easier- didn’t care much for the game at this stage but wanted to get to the end (where you fight both bosses anyway, and make any moral stance or choice completely irrelevant… ah well.)    

Hawke and/or Warden return would be great, also on my personal wishlist…

… a BIG plot, one that encompasses the entire world (or, well, a very big map at least) with lots of intertwined subplots that come together in a grand finale that just makes you go “whoa!” (kinda like DA:O)

… non-quest chats with party members

… characters that have something to say beyond what they think is their personal cause

… Darkspawn, lots of them! Talking ones, archers, Ogres, all of’em!

… bring back the tent scenes! Yes I liked them, nothing wrong with a little bit of romance beyond snogging on a bed.    

What did I like? Let’s see…

The combat- quick and slick, especially as I played as a rogue for the first time

The first kiss with Anders- as intriguing as the relationship with him gets

The Alistair   cameos, particularly Bumistair at the tavern (“I’m the prince of Fffffffffferellden, I’m tellin’ ya *hic*…”)

But most of all I liked my female custom Hawke (see profile pic)- a real cutie, voice acting matched perfectly, AND she kicks arse! a real highlight even during boring parts of the game

Sandal side story? 

Hawke plus couple new party members, including a romance option that actually has a personality beyond “This is my cause, ramble ramble blah”? (probably too much to hope for) 
 
Wrap-up on Wayward Son? (I'm on "The Last Straw", hoping to finish tonight so he might yet appear but I doubt it) 
 
Flemeth involvement clarification/ wrap-up? (see above)
