Giant Bomb's Jeff Gerstmann plays 'Techno Kitten Adventure'

I saw this on Friday's Happy Hour, and thought it was too good to be missed.

It's the weekend! What have I been playing? - 25th April 2010

Onto the third weekly blog post then. This week I have been fairly busy, which is probably due to today's 1 day late blog post, which should have been up yesterday (sorry). This week I have been playing a lot more of the Skate 3 demo, which I have found to be both good and bad, and I'm not sure how the actual game will turn out. Here's how i've found it so far in a sort of pro's and con's system:

Pro's

- Classic Skate gameplay, Trick system works well
- Looks like a variety of challenges
- Great Visual Style

Con's

- Really sketchy frame rate that is all over the place (I hope they fix this for the full game)
- Mediocre graphics that look all a bit dated
- *Demo Only* Timer that limits play

So i've found its good points, and it's problems. That sort of sums up my Skate 3 demo experience. It felt very similar to the first 2 Skate games, but more refined, the trick system feels better. But the frame rate is still consistenly low, on my PS3 anyway. The graphics I found were very poor, everything seems to be blurred a lot, which probably hides the poor texture quality. So yeah, mixed opinions overall on that game. I have also been playing some more Just Cause 2, which I have completed! Well, not all the faction missions yet, but I have completed the story missions, and the ending to those is really insane and over the top.

I have also been revisiting some retro games with the release of After Burner: Climax on the PSN. This game is hyper fast, and runs at a really smooth frame rate. (Learn from this hey Skate?) Basically, it is an arcade jet fighter game, and you spend the whole game in the air blowing up other planes, all while travelling at seriously high speeds. The game does slow down when you get given the oppurtunity to activate like a bullet time sequence, which looks awesome, and does not break up the game's pace at all. You can expect a review of After Burner: Climax shortly.

I guess that does it for this week's blog entry.

It's the weekend! What have I been playing? - 17th April 2010

Ok, 2nd major blog post. Over the course of this week, I have been playing many games (as usual xD). I have stopped playing Far Cry 2, due to it just getting more and more annoying as I progress through the game. I have got a review up on here of the game, and it is in my opinion an average quality game. I got to play some Final Fight: Double Impact over at a friend's house, and that is pure arcade fun. Controls feel just right, and the combination of 2 classic arcade titles put into one release is an awesome deal. Also, I love the different screen effects you can have (dude, you can create old retro scan lines).

I also have very recently played the Skate 3 demo, which I was pretty impressed with. Black Box have seemed to have nailed down the Skate formula here, and have refined it, making the controls more responsive. Graphics have been slightly improved, with better textures and lighting, but, not to worry, it's a fine looking game overall. It's a shame that the demo had a limited time window, becuase if it hadn't, I could of had a more in-depth look at the game. The most exciting aspect of the full game that I am looking foward to is the skate park creation tool, which, as expected, was not featured in the demo.

I've been ranking up on Battlefield again, as usual, but still I am no closer to gaining 'The Dentist' trophy. No matter how hard I try, the opponent just knifes me before I have a chance to pull the move off. I've still been continuing my parachuting adventure in Just Cause 2, and I just finished one of the most thrilling moment of the whole game, which really took my breath away in it's sense of scope. I'm gonna say this without any story spoilers. You fight a guy with a tank on top of a effin' skycraper. If that isn't thrilling enough for you, that is not the final mission in the game. I am yet to complete this 20 hour adventure, but I really cannot wait for this game's epic conclusion.

Ok, that's just about going to do it for this week's blog post, but I will be back again next Saturday with another round up of what I have been playing!

It's the weekend! What have I been playing? - 10th April 2010

Every weekend, I will be writing this blog to tell you guys what I have been playing over the course of the week. This should be updated every Saturday.

Today, I gained enough diamonds in Far Cry 2 to unlock and buy the sniper rifle. Yes, I know, it's not a very big achievement, but then again, I have only just recieved the game. I've been playing it, and I will probably have a review up on here sometime soon. What I think of it so far is that the world is way to big, and I'm finding it tedious navigating my way around the world. Yes, this games main aim is realism, but I think it goes too far sometimes. Anyway, you will find out more later in the review I will post soon (hopefully). I have also been playing some Just Cause 2. This is probably my favourite game at the moment, becuase there is almost an unlimited number of things you can do in the game. Plus the fact that last night, if you were reading my twitter, you would have found out that I discovered this really creepy island in the game which looks like it is pretty much ripped out of the T.V. series 'Lost'. When I was flying my Boeing 747 over the island (yes, you can really fly these sorts of planes) it was shot down my some really strange tower. As I explored the island, I found it to be very, very interesting. I found a beach with the word 'Search' in large letters spread across the sand, a strange metallic object in the woods and, a huge complex of towers in the middle of the island. These towers were really strange, and like nothing I had even seen before in the game. They had electronics built into the top of the towers, which could probably mean that an electromagnetic pulse took down my plane.

I have also been playing some Battlefield: Bad Company 2. This game, I believe, at the moment, is probably the best online multiplayer shooter I have ever played. Why? Becuase EA are not Activision, and becuase DICE are a better developer than Infinity Ward. Battlefield is better, becuase A = its more realistic, and B = there aren't any 8 year old kids screaming down the headset, and there is no glitching or cheating. Just these reasons make it the better game. Oh, and did I mention free map packs? No, I don't think I did, did I. Go buy Battlefield.

Over and out.
