Giant Bomb ignored the issue for months. It got worse, and gamers convinced themselves that these silent voices were on their side. Their victims felt they were being thrown under the bus. And basically, Giant Bomb wasn't covering the biggest story in the video game industry. Silence doesn't help - we know this. We've known this for months. Now that people are finally speaking out, you call for more silence. Come on.

GB has never been about regurgitating these kinds of stories like every other outdated big gaming site.I mean, should GB have done a story about the guy that was killed selling his ps4 on craigslist too? That seems way worse than this. Obviously now they're feeling the pressure from Patrick's little twitter circle so they're going to, but it's weird that anyone thought this was something they'd write about..

It's more believable to you that Giant Bomb would report on this story because Patrick's friends told him to, than because it's an ongoing issue affecting dozens of industry figures that's been happening for months?

Did you miss the part where some of those people inexplicably called out GB directly?

Haven't followed the gamergate stuff much but after watching that youtube video with the 4 games writers that mostly seem to support the movement, I do agree with a lot of what they're saying. It's really strange how most of these big gaming sites have stopped writing to their main audience and instead have started insulting it.

I mean, the "core" video game demographic seems pretty clear. Recently, Nintendo released their wii u eshop data and it was 93% male. So now that games journalists on a lot of major sites seem to write a lot about feminist stuff and what female characters are wearing and other things like that, most video game players seem to be annoyed or confused as to why they should care. And then the games writers in that echo chamber write more stuff insulting those people that don't care and the cycle keeps going.

I play video games. I want to hear about their mechanics and stuff. I have no power to change what other people like. The lecturing about what I should do to make more women like games is pointless and annoying and it seems to have creeped into most video game coverage. I can see why this large group of people think this stuff is troubling.

@splodge: It's been weeks and weeks of bullshit, GB kinda deserved the call out :/

Really glad to see Patrick address it

I must have missed something... Did GB do something to set this all off?

Edit: By GB I assume you mean Giant Bomb.

Of course nobody at Giant Bomb set this off.

GB has a huge audience and is (rightfully) respected among devs and gamers. Talking about the harassment, condemning it in front of this audience is really needed.

It's the least they can to help stop this insanity.

(imo, every major gaming site needs articles like this one, thanks again Patrick)

Yeah, I'm glad to now know that at least Patrick is anti-death threats. I haven't heard from the rest of them yet though. Who knows what their stance on death threats might be?! Especially that Jeff guy. He's got that shifty look in his eyes.

@splodge: I am confused, what was she expecting GB to do?

The only reasonable thing TO do. Disband the site, join the Twitter moderation team and put an end to these threats.

@hellbound

Patrick's job has ways been to report on news and what not along with making videos. But he is the news guy and he has been covering it.

No offense to Patrick, but until GG is covered on the Bomb Cast, it hasn't really been covered. I think he would probably agree with me.

I think it won't be truly covered until they all do a livestream of themselves getting anti-gamergate tattoos.

Weird that people care about video game sites taking a stance on this stuff. Did you think they were pro-harassment or something? Obviously it's wrong and there continues to be nothing they can do about threats on twitter.

That would be terrible. Besides Danny, Gamespot is super lame. All they would add to GB is a more corporate feel.

I have no idea what they were doing with that extra time they had. It doesn't even look much better or play that much differently(from trying the demo). I was looking forward to finally playing EASHL on my ps4 but then EA happened. Of course they were able to get HUT in there to get that micro-transaction money but couldn't get all these other modes in. Definitely skipping this year.

Like most people have said/always say, less political crap. I want to learn about what the games are and their mechanics and if the story was good/ interesting, etc. Not all the terrible articles/tumblr blogs doing armchair storytelling with stuff like, "I think this character should've been a woman and this character should've been black, me me me me."

The market dictates that kind of stuff. You really think these big companies are purposely trying to lose money? No, they look at all the data and that's why there aren't more female protagonists and whatever else some people want. Nintendo released their Wii U eshop demographic data recently and it was 93% male, and that's on a freakin Nintendo platform. It's just really strange how this stuff has become the first question these "journalists" ask about a new game when most of the people that play games don't care about it at all.

This sounds an awful lot like a self fulfilling prophecy doesn't it?

Games cater to white males and patronise/magnetise other demographics and white males eat it up while the other demos feel excluded, this is also what happens in the movies.

If you believe that 93% male market would react in a way which would cause a company like Nintendo to loose money to a black character or a woman should that not be addressed?

Don't you think that if the in-balance was addressed that would make more money for a company like Nintendo or are that 93% so against having non white non male characters?

Nintendo does have a ton of diversity in their stuff and that's why I was saying it's crazy even their platform has such a huge split. It just seems like the majority of that demographic(women) have no interest in video games unless they're a motion based thing or a mobile game.

Which is why it's so weird that this topic is what all these games journalists want to talk about. Since most of the actual audience for video game coverage doesn't care about that stuff at all that's probably why so many people feel games journalism has become a joke. It's just lecturing people for things they have no control over and also things they don't really care about.
