I am sick to death of everyone saying Effect 1 was better.

In recent day there have been a quite a few of why Mass Effect 2 sucks/is worst them ME1 posts and god damn I am just sick of it. So right here right now I am going to say why I think Mass Effect 1 was not the best game ever and how Mass Effect 2 was over all a better game.

Lets start off with what were the most evident problems with ME1 at the same time going over the positive aspects.

The Bad

  1. The Shooting it just feels sloppy and unsatisfying. What I mean is the lack of feeling that what you are doing has an impact on the enemy.
  2. The Inventory system: Sure there is one but every thing feels like every thing else none of the weapons feel distinct. (Until you use ammo mods) Not to mention the fact near the end of the game you have to stop every 10 min to turn every thing to Gel.
  3. The Mako: This is a point of contention between everyone so here is my feeling yes it makes the world feel very large but at the same time very empty. You can land on all these different worlds but at the same time the is almost nothing to do on those worlds aside from the mission
  4. The Side Missions: Are very poorly copy and pasted environments with a small variation on shot the dudes.
  5. The Main Story is Short: As far as I an tell the main story only has about 10 missions (Eden Prime then get the 3 team mates from the Citadel and the 3 places be for you go to Saren's base then you go through the relay and the battle of the Citadel and you are done)
  6. THE ONE AND ONLY HACKING MINI-GAME
  7. You Can't sprint out side of combat also it runs out super fast.

Now to be fair Mass Effect one dose have some very good points

The Good

  1. The Main Story: Even with it being a little on the short side each mission is memorial and distinctive
  2. The Main Bad Guy: Saren is a really good antagonist he is that rare breed of being both stronger and smarter that Shepard with just a dash of ruthless and madness along with not knowing whether or not his is in control

Now lets move on to Mass Effect 2

The Bad

  1. The Main Story: Well there is not much there and its not that great
  2. Most of the New Human Teammates: Marina, Jacob, and Jack seem very stereotypical and one dimensional
  3. No Grenades

The Good

  1. The Weapons: There are not a lot but each one feels diffident each other
  2. The Dossier and Loyalty Missions: If you ask me the best part of the whole game each one being new and exciting. AT the same time giving great depth to each of the teammates
  3. The The Interrupts System: It just adds a real visceral felling of being Shepard.
  4. The Combat; Sure it is your standard 3rd person cover based shooter but it super sappy and just well thought out.
  5. The Galaxy: It is just more expansive you see more walks off life such as Omega and The Migrant Fleet its not just the wonder and spender of the Citadel
  6. Good Verity of Henchmen: I will admit most of them are re-skins but there are still many more then in mass effect 1.

But for me here is the clincher take 2 missions one from Mass Effect 1 and one from Mass Effect 2

Garrus: Find Dr.Saleon and Garrus: Eye for an Eye

In both missions you are helping Garrus with whether or not he should kill some one in Dr.Saleon you fight thought a small ship and find the doctor and ether you tell Garrus to shot him or not. No mater what he dies its just Paragon or Renegade points. But on the other side of the coin you have Eye for an Eye were you have to come to a decision were you ether help Garrus get "Justice" or help him realize that killing some one will not make his guilt go away.(I like this mission so much I replayed it 5 times)

Well there you go I guess after writing this all I want is some objectivity. I mean quit spending all day saying one thing is better that the other both are good in there own merits.

“You can't have a better tomorrow if you are thinking about yesterday all the time.” Charles F. Kettering

Please Note: That is just being pissed the F off and trying to express my anger in constructive manner even if to dose not come out that way so take that as you will.

Mass Effect 1: Better story, proper inventory

Mass Effect 2: Better gameplay, sidequests

Some people just prefer story to gameplay and vice versa. Nothing wrong with that. Personally I'm somewhere in the middle. I feel like ME1 was a bigger game, especially when it came to the environments. The Citadel in ME2 was laughable. On the other hand it was super janky and the side missions were absolutely craptastic. Also I really missed the inventory, convoluted as it was in ME1. You just can't have an RPG without one!

I really hope Bioware combines the best of both worlds in ME3, but from what I've seen so far, that may not be the case.

Both are better in different ways. I think your list is a bit bias.

If I had to pick a game I think I like more, I go with ME1. The story was just a bit better.

But it's close. The storytelling (not the actual story) in ME2 is better, it's more cinematic, the graphics are better which actually added a lot to the atmosphere and thus the game, it was less buggy and the gameplay was better..

But If I had to be stuck with one game for the rest of my life, I think it's ME1.

EIther way, It looks like ME3 will take the best of both worlds and I can't fucking wait.

I think ME2 was the better overall game, but there were things I liked about the first that make it more memorable to me.

I have no problem admitting that Mass Effect 2 is a better game, I loved every minute of it, but I prefer Mass Effect 1. Just like how I fully admit The Dark Knight is better than Batman Begins but Batman Begins is my favourite.

Some people prefer Mass Effect 1 others prefer Mass Effect 2, they're  just opinions, it's that simple. Mass Effect 1 was more for the RPG driven gamers where as Mass Effect 2 for action oriented gamers, i found the story and antagonists from Mass Effect to be superior to those of Mass Effect 2 and the RPG elements of ME2 are lacking. That being said i understand where the fanboyism is coming from, i hate it when someone badmouths Fallout, but saying you're sick because someone expresses their opinion just makes you look like a dick.

@rb_man: Like i said man, they're just opinions, i don't understand why people need to bring out the fire and brimstone just because someone had different opinions. You know that that's how the crusades and witch burnings started? If someone says they prefer ME1 you say you prefer ME2 and leave it at that. Also, anyone who says that F3 is better than F:NV is completely retarded :D

Also I am super excited to see what they do with Bane he is my favorite Batman bad guys I just hope they make him as good as they did win he broke Batman's back that is still one of my favorite Batman arcs.

ME2 has much better gameplay, but ME1 with the gameplay of ME2 would be a better game.

I like them both in different ways, but I must admit that I can't go back to ME1.

You're looking at it too technical.

At least for me a game is not about such stuff, its more about the experience I had with it.
Some people love Alpha Protocol, others gut their own eyes at the sight of it, people just dig what a game gives them.

ME1 gave me the superior experience.
ME2 gave me the superior gameplay (combat sense I suppose, ME1's dialogue was awesome).

I agree that ME2 is far better than ME1, but I get tired of people getting upset about other people's opinions. We're not arguing about anything objective, here. It's all about taste and priorities. It's not worth getting bent out of shape about. Don't take these disagreements personally. It's not worth it.

You know, I just played through Mass Effect 1 again, and just started Mass Effect 2, and I had forgotten just how improved it is technically.

Honestly though, I kinda wish people would stop arguing over which one is better. Both are fantastic games, and both have their flaws. I think we can all agree on that.

What does bother me are the people who say Mass Effect 2 isn't an RPG. Assholes.

I fucking vastly prefer ME1 to ME2. ME1 was my favorite game of 2009 (the year I played it). It ranks right up there with Bioshock and Arkham Asylum as one of my favorite games of this generation. I actively dislike ME2.

I think ME1 is good and I would still enjoy it if I went back and played it today. Both games are different but for ME1 the Mako is something I enjoyed, the story is a lot better, it stuck to its universe a lot more than the second game or even the third game looks to be. As for the combat both are about even for me. ME1 combat was dull and really easy if you played the right way, you rarely needed to take cover. For instance I have played through the game four times, with once in insane and once on hard I have yet to get the "Use medigel 150 times" achievement . ME2 combat is much more of a cover based shooter and in my opinion an average one at best. Snappy is not the word I would use  to describe ME2 combat that's for sure. Its cover system is as janky as anything in ME1. I didn't  care about the inventory  being removed, the ME2 system was good but It had more DLC items than actual  game items which is just ridiculous . As for the story I haven't  played the first game in a while but I don't remember it having as many plot holes and stupid crap as ME2. ME2 was a game were the writers sat down and wrote a series of really good characters and side missions and then forgot they needed a main quest or maybe they wanted the whole game to just be the side missions but someone thought it too risky and so they crammed in a really unsatisfying  story that doesn't  go anywhere and just ends right back to where the first game ended. I enjoy both but the second game ended up going in a direction I didn't  expect or really want, still a great game for all of its faults. The first game is actually the one I have seen get the most hate and dislike form people with good reason.

To this day I don't get all the Mako hate. I fucking loved mucking around in that thing, awkward as the controls were.

I really hope Bioware combines the best of both worlds in ME3, but from what I've seen so far, that may not be the case.

Me too man me too

My impression so far is that they are leaving out the better part of both games.

" The Inventory system: Sure there is one but every thing feels like every thing else none of the weapons feel distinct. (Until you use ammo mods) Not to mention the fact near the end of the game you have to stop every 10 min to turn every thing to Gel."
True to some extent, but what makes it so great is that it's there, and you can make what you want out of it. I really love the inventorysystem even though it has some major flaws like no sorting and weird "handling". The problem with Mass Effect 2 in my eyes is that it lacks the RPG parts ME has. I love the game because I can shoot and not just fling my blade around. The inventorysystem also helps giving the feeling of your weapons actully meaing something, whereas the system in Mass Effect 2 simply gives a short description and feels flat and uninteresting. A bad thing when the game tries to be a shooter where your weapons usually are in focus. I also find the coversystem to be terrible at times, so as a shooter the game falls flat, leaving the very thin RPG-elements to carry the game.

" The Dossier and Loyalty Missions: If you ask me the best part of the whole game each one being new and exciting. AT the same time giving great depth to each of the teammates"
You have missions for your teammates in Mass Effect as well, but they don't give the depth nor the back story Mass Effect 2 gives.
