@AhmadMetallic: I'm not trolling. I've just heard it all before. People were saying the same things before Blood Money was out when the news broke that being discovered didn't mean instant failure. The forums were covered in people complaining about how they ruined the franchise by making it "easy" and by moving certain sections of it to the US.

This happens every time a sequel comes out. Go look at the Starcraft 2 forums, Max Payne 3, Diablo 3 etc. Before any of these games are released people start making a fuss about the whole franchise is ruined based on a quote by a developer or a screenshot. People need to stop freaking out about video games. Wait until they're released before making a final judgement. If you're not sure about a game wait a while, read up on it post-release, then decide. Don't like it, don't buy it. Write a forum post or email on why you didn't buy it. That's the best way to send a message to a developer/publisher.

There's nothing wrong with saying "I'm not sure I like where they're going with so-and-so", but this went from "They've made some changes to the gameplay" to "F*CKING DEVELOPERS DON'T EVEN CARE! WHAT ABOUT THE FANS?! SOMETHING SOMETHING MAINSTREAM SHOOTER!"

...wait until the game comes out. Read reviews, browse forums then if you like what you read buy the game. If you don't, play something else.

@GS_Dan: It's a group called Likely Lads. If you get the chance they're worth a look.

Album reviews, in my opinion, tend to be the worst. I wrote some for a blog in college and found that they're pretty terrible to write as well.

Yeah, so far that's been my experience. They always come off as pretentious nonsense, and really I can't see them serving much purpose in today's world where you can often here entire albums or at least large sections of them via sites like youtube and soundcloud. I'm of the opinion that it'd best to avoid them...aside from the occasional concert review.

The other thing I would do is try to figure out what the focus of your blog is. Are you going to focus on review, news, interviews, etc.? Will you focus on particular genres of music? Will the writing cater to those who understand the more complex nature of music (music theory, etc.) or just general consumers of music?

Well to begin with the focus would be primarily on interviews as I don't want to overreach. As far as news goes I was thinking I'd keep a look out at other music sites, write a quick summary of an article (main points), then just provide the link for any further information.

Just be honest but explain why you like or dont like the music. I mean, you cant please everyone..... And I like seeing how passionate the writer is

I suppose I should work on not sounding so sarcastic all the time...

Hey Bombers,

So after studying journalism for a little while now, I've been looking at moving into music journalism. In order to step into this field in any serious capacity I'll have to build up a bit of a portfolio to show potential employers what I can offer. I've decided the best way to do this is through a blog with a focus on interviews with bands/singers currently breaking into the industry (because let's face it, the chances of me scoring an interview with an already popular band are slim...although I'll still try). I already have a few interviews in the works, one with a local band in Melbourne, one based in New York City, and another from York in the UK but this got me thinking...

What exactly do you look for in a good music journalist/journalism? ...and how much do you care about album reviews? Personally I can't stand writing/reading them so I'm doing my best to avoid it, but if I find it's something that people are demanding obviously I'll have to work on changing my view.

Thanks for all your help.

Your biggest and most loving fan,

Rittsy.

I wouldn't worry too much about things like this in the long run. A lot of Blizzard's games change over time based on player feedback (look at Diablo 2). Give it a couple of months and Inferno should play how you'd imagine it to play.

Personally I'm sick of having to turn on my computer to play Diablo 3. Surely we've reached that point in gaming where electricity is no longer necessary to power a PC. Those damn developers and the power companies are in cahoots together. Say no to 'always on electricity' gaming!
