Anybody else picking up on a few Star Wars quotes in this episode? Or did I snap under the tension of Mr. Whitta's writing?

They usually get excited about Indie games and small, downloadables that try to do something different. The problem is, as has been said before, a lot of the big release "Triple A" games are limited by the current console generation. We're just not seeing the graphical/AI/physics leaps we were seeing earlier in the generation. A lot of games, whilst in a vacuum might be fantastic, just feel a little stale when you compare them to similar ones. The bombsquad play everything, as a result a lot of stuff is "meh".

Getting on a list like that would be the DEATH of me. I don't know what I'd have TO do to get the FBI to look at me. But earning the ire of the best law enforcement in AMERICA is something I'd like to avoid. It'd DESTROY me. THE thought makes me go WHITE as a ghost. If it happened I wouldn't be able to leave me HOUSE.

YES, me too. I get the chills thinking how an alarm will suddenly go off and say, "Terrorist CONFIRMED." It's not like I'm HITMAN47. By the way, have you heard the news about that one guy? I would hate to be COMPROMISED like that.

Yes, I did hear THE news. I doubt that someone would PLAN something like that though. As far as news GOES that was a shocker. As long as we think AHEAD I'm sure we can avoid accidentally attracting the FBI's attention. Honestly, people who make getting on those lists their TARGET garner little respect from me. Me? I'm just happy staying out of trouble, mowing THE lawn and making lemonade. I trust the people at the CAPITOL to protect me and my family.

Can you all believe it's almost July? I'm nervous about a marathon I'm running; came FOURTH in it last year. Been training TWO hours a day for it. PM me if you have any tips.

Anybody else find this game exhausting? And I don't mean that in a bad way, I loved the game. Max Payne is my favourite character and franchise and Max Payne 3, whilst different, was a great sequel. But I noticed that the game just really took it out of me, like more than any video game should. I don't mean emotionally or anything like that, I mean literal physical and mental exhaustion... I'm not sure what it was, or how to accurately describe it, but didn't anybody else feel something similar after a couple of hours?

That expansive and confusing level design where they only give you some tips and a picture and drop you into a big open-ended level without funneling you or slapping flashing icons on your screen, is what made Hitman games amazing. You actually felt like a hit man, dropping off at a new, real-life location you've never been, a place all you know about is a certain window of a certain building that your agency described for you, and that's it.
That's why the exploration and the whole "where the fuck am I?" was literally the meat of Hitman games. There was always two things on your mind: Am I lost, or will going with my hunch by choosing this path pay off soon? And once your sequence of "getting lost then finding yourself" incidents are tied together and finally get you closer to the target, and wham bam thank you ma'am you kill them and make your escape, you felt like a total king.

Think back to how you played Hitman. Did you actually sneak around everywhere on your first try at a level? Did you really play like a Hitman? Or were there large sections where you'd save your game then just run through on a suicide run to find out how many guards were patrolling this room, and whether or not your target was behind a locked door? Sure, when you successfully killed your target and got out of there you felt like a badass. But for the rest of the game you felt like a bald guy in a suit with back problems. Sounds like they're making it possible to play like a Hitman all the way through on your first try, then come back to the levels and try it in a different way.

That's my guess based on the OP and the 16 minute gameplay trailer.

Keep in mind gameplay trailers are often designed to show off the games tech (graphics, lighting, sound etc.) and the most action intense sections to give it a broader appeal. 15 minutes of serious stealth is boring as hell to watch.

The romantic subplot is not the desired substance in a Hitman game... It wasn't added to "enrich" the game, a game of Hitman where the guy has no goddamn dick or a heart. It was added because it's a staple of mainstream gaming to have hot chicks to fuck. So the Hitman devs jumped on the bandwagon even though a horse would have better luck getting laid with a human female than Agent 47 would... god damn.

I wouldn't call a romantic subplot a staple of mainstream (there's that word again) gaming. Sure there are games that use it (Uncharted, Mass Effect, Max Payne 2), but it's not like in Call of Duty you look into Capt. Price's eyes and make out whilst the Statue of Liberty explodes (but Christ you'd buy that game just for that scene alone). It's a great way to humanise a character...and until you know what direction the story is going don't assume it's just an excuse to put in a sex scene.

Why don't you have some respect for the developers, the ones who brought you these games in the first place, and who are trying to bring these game to more people. They're not abandoning you. It's still a Hitman game. It's still 47. If you don't like what they're doing, move on. It's a video game. There are plenty more out there.

Also, read Dogma's post above.

...like my cousins, and my work colleagues, game development DID get "dumbed down" and focus more on the wow effect of cinematics, cool chase sequences and graphics rather than substance.

I don't really want to turn this into a broad argument about game development, because I know I'll win, and you know you'll win, so we'd just end up hating each other over a video game.

But all Blystad indicated in the quote was that they were trying to remove the monotonous parts of gameplay. How is opening a door, finding nothing then getting discovered and restarting the level substance? He said there's still plenty of ways to achieve your goal, it'll just be less "What's in here...oh nothing. Here? Nothing again...where the f*ck am I?". You can still go back and replay the level in a different way. To me, that sounds like the franchise is improving on a weakness.

Also they're adding a romantic subplot. Isn't that substance? That adds a new dimension to the character, no? 47 is great, but he was never much more than an excuse to play Hitman...he's a memorable character, but only because he's a bald, killer clone.

As for voice actors, they were probably working on something else. Would you really want them to delay the game 6 months because 'Diana' had another commitment?

What lacks substance is half the posts in threads like this. They cry about how things are ruined without even seeing what's been changed. Like I said, there's nothing wrong with saying "I don't like the direction this game is going because of this and this..." but crying out how the developer has betrayed the fanbase and how they've sold out (side note: games were always made to make money) just makes me hate "whiners".
