I think I'll still get this. The animation is stilted and awkward, but that stuff doesn't really get in the way for me. As there were similar things in The Witcher 3, a game I loved, and the previous Mass Effect games, which I also really liked.
What does get in the way however is the surprisingly poorly delivered dialogue. That is actually a huge step down in quality for me, and has really impacted my excitement for the game. The story can be the most engrossing tale of woe but if the delivery is as poor as it appears to be, then it really damages the overall product for me.
The combat looks malleable in a way I really like the look of, and really want to see how crazy endgame combat gets.
A lot of people are saying that Mass Effect has always been this way. Yes, that is completely true. But in 2007 (10 years ago), this shit was a fucking revelation to me. I loved the first Mass Effect in a way that people talk about Half Life 2. 10 years later that game (and 2/3 to a lesser extent) obviously look poor as face capture technology, etc has come so much further than this. Call it a "hate train" or whatever hyperbole you want, but I can't help but feel a little disappointed by some of the glaring gaps in quality in here.
Still going to give this a try, the combat looks good enough to push me through I hope. And I'm not going to judge the story until I see the whole thing, but that voice acting will really need to improve throughout the thing. My expectations have gone from "Fuck yes, series reboot lets fucking do this", to "Cool, DA:I in space."
@jonny_anonymous:Yeah it does fall on deaf ears for me really. The Witcher 3 (pre-patch) was one of the worst I've seen for inventory management, but didn't really affect my enjoyment of that game at all.
Just a quick comment for everyone who is taking some umbrage with how we're approaching the combat. Your feedback on heat moves has been absorbed. We know. The triangle icon is visible to us on the screen, it's just sometimes hard to notice when we're in the middle of conversations and messing around, as we do. I'll endeavor to remind him more as we go along, especially once we have some more weapons we can equip.
Again, the tips are appreciated (they've actually helped a lot so far), but try not to get too frustrated with us. We're having fun, and trying to play the game as we naturally would. We'll miss stuff, no doubt, and gentle reminders when we do are A-OK.

This will be such a divisive game, for some people the framerate will be a dealbreaker (and I imagine people will be using overblown terms like "technical mess" and "unplayable" which is always a bit extreme) and for some it might not even register. Really interesting to compare this to Horizon.
