Bethesda are utterly spoiled to have individuals like you as fans. In my opinion, they don't deserve it. Skyrim doesn't deserve it. But if you had that level of an experience, then cheers.

OP brought up a legitimate point. There are lots of video games coming/that have come out for this video game website to cover. If they don't want to talk about a game, that's cool, but saying "Nah man video games don't get released anymore, weird right?" is bullshit.

My favorite part of the Bombcasts are the random conversations they have, but it would definitely be nice to get more actual video content on a daily basis (that isn't only from Pat). I mainly think this is because GiantBomb is the only site that I follow in regards to video games, so when they put out a 30 minute QL one day and that is it, that is all the content I normally consume video game wise which I feel is shitty (but isn't inherently a problem with GiantBomb).

EDIT: By the way, the whole "ughhhh" shit you guys do when people voice an opinion you don't agree with is fucking immature. Have the decency to give a legitimate response as to why you don't agree with what he or she is saying.

Good post!

Regarding the podcast - I agree that a lot of the emergent comedy of GB comes from the guys sharing stories about days off, family stuff, etc. But I admit, I find myself going toward Videogamer UK or even Weekend Confirmed to just hear some video game industry discussion. Listening to GBs end of year podcasts was a reminder of what it sounds like for that group to actually talk about video games. I think Vinny's wood working, Drews boring but educational weekend excursions and Jeffs performance sheets sometimes get in the way of just chopping it up about games and the game industry. It couldn't hurt for them to trim the time down a bit and just get to business.

And as far as zero coverage for a ton of games besides an occasional snarky reference on the podcast "Go play Rust, har har", it does get old. I get paid to do some things in life that I sometimes enjoy or don't enjoy on a daily basis. The GB crew gets paid to run a website about video games. That's fucking amazing. If somehow in the course of an 8 hour work day, none of these guys are getting an hour to actually play a video game and talk about it, then CBS is really fucking things up. If it's not the fault of the parent company, then the crew should think about prioritizing office work and meetings to actually allow them to do their job.

*edit*

One gripe while the subject is hot. The post E3/PAX podcast where the first hour is nothing but discussing how tired and sick everyone is from going to E3 or PAX. Events that most of us would love to attend even at great cost.

@sdharrison: I seem to recall that you couldn't even look through keyholes anymore, and that they never distinguished between guards and civilians on your minimap (also, no overall map of the entire environment anymore), so it was a constant trial and error for whenever you would enter a room to see just who's actually in there. Even when you look past its noticeably different take on Hitman, that game was coated in flaws and bad design decisions.

Totally. I'm surprised so many responders here have a somewhat positive impression of the title - apparently standards are very low. Absolution was also able to slip past critics. 7 or 8s out of 10 and that was that. It kind of just got away. Setting a critical eye to that game pretty quickly reveals a dense list of design decisions that range from puzzling to outright detrimental.

We just need Jeff to play the Souls games, get past that hipster hump, and then we can rejoice! :D

We'll get Jeff eventually.

You guys are crazy if you think Jeff is ever going to get into the souls games, barring the possibility that a future installment changes enough for him to like it. The older Jeff gets, the more cranky and set in his ways he's going to be. He's the George Carlin of video games.

That's kind of offensive. Jeff is funny.

I could be misreading this, so just to clarify: Is this comment implying George Carlin is not funny?

Absolution was a master class in how to make every single wrong decision possible. The moves the developers made in that toward an almost incomprehensible story at the cost of essentially everything that made Hitman popular was breathtaking. Breaking the disguise system, choking the life out of levels, cutting out pre-mission gear selection... All of it together made Absolution such a stunning disappointment. Not to even mention IO's bizarre idea that Hitman should be in the grindhouse genre.

I don't blame them for not admitting "we fucked up bad, sorry", but IO definitely has their work cut out to bring Hitman back into form. Then again, the blueprint has always been there. Just make more Blood Money maps.

What is the word on US versions of Phantasy Star Online and God Eater 2? I really want to play them, but I am utterly intimidated by the Japanese language.

The overall top ten list from this year was a trainwreck. I don't care what they would come up with as a staff because the process is so absurd. Just do individual top 10s and call it a day. Anything resembling that last GOTY discussion is a waste of everyones time.

I played ACIV, NBA2K, DC Universe and Warframe. Had a great time with all of them, and I love the look and feel of the system.

Obviously there is a lack of games right now, and it really isn't going to be radically different until next year. The ps4 is a good value for the money as far as hardware and future outlook, but it's certainly not worth stretching for until you see something that's a must play.

ESO has one thing going for it: Next gen console owners starving for games. If they dropped the fee, went B2P with a cosmetic cash shop, and marketed it like Skyrim, it could be a phenomenon. An MMO for Call of Duty players. Skyrim already did that for the western RPG genre, and wasn't a particularly good game at all. If Zenimax handled this launch right, it wouldn't matter how derivative or shallow ESO is.

For all the time, money and effort - they're going to get trumped by Destiny or any other of the oncoming MMO-lite games. There is a window for success, but it doesn't seem like Zenimax has the vision and balls to make it happen.
