Games I've Played in 2017 (Ranked)

This list will likely just be renamed GOTY 2017 come end of the year.

List items

  • This has to be the best series debut ever. I honestly can't think of a clear first-installment that nailed so goddamn much. (I'm not counting things like TLoU which didn't really set themselves up as the first in a series)

The graphics are incomparable, the gameplay loop is hella fun, the music is memorable and, most of all, THAT WORLD! DAMN! I really hope the sequels measure up to what this lays out because, man, the plot is fantastic.

Honestly, though, if there's never a sequel (and to be clear, it's not like this ends on a cliffhanger), I'd still be happy for playing this gem.

    Wow.

High points: Stormbird fights, Corrupted Thunderjaw fights, Everything to do with Aloy's mother, Rost in general, and, finally finding out what happened to the old ones.

  • This game stands toe to toe with Persona 4 any day of the week, and considering that P4 is my favourite game of all time.. well, let's just say this thing is special.

Highlights: Styyyyyyle + music, Ryuji's hero moment, walking up to each boss (music, leadup etc), funny moments (stripping, haunted house, futaba's dialogue), best girl: makoto, best moment: Igor returns, best turn based battle system, renting a van!

Also - Best music of 2017?

  • Endings C and E, man... endings C and E.

Other Highlights: Best music of 2017?, Best side character (Pascal, A2), best moment (ending C dual boss fight, ending E, pascal's memories), 2017's most illogical plot, best VO 2017

  • My first Zelda - and hey, it was a good one.

I don't think it lives up to the review hype, to be sure, but its a really solid open world sandbox game with some excellent design decisions (no open world checklist, climb most things, etc) but also some pretty bad ones (its easy, combat and horse riding are shaky and rain is the WORST).

Honestly, though, all it was really missing for me was a deeper story and characters, but it seems like Zelda isn't the place to look for that kind of thing anyway. Ah well, at least the ending was great (especially if you save all the memories til the end as well).

  • My first Yakuza, and MAN, I hope to play more.

Highlights: Majima Intro, ending boss fights - boss fights in general, funnest sidequests
