Dragon Age: Origins is the prime example of a game that knows exactly what it wants to be and what it wants to say and actually goes through with executing it's goals to near perfection. Am I biased? Totally. I've loved most all things by Bioware for a long time and I won't pretend that I don't favor them in some ways but I'll stand by the fact that Bioware as a company had a hell of an influential stretch of games from the late 90's up until 2012 and Dragon Age: Origins is the high point of what I feel that Bioware as a studio can do.
One of the things that Dragon Age: Origins does best is remaining unique amidst primarily existing as a love-letter and spiritual successor to Roleplaying games of the 90's and early 2000's. To see Bioware make-up for the narrative quality that was missing in a game like Neverwinter Nights and then surpass on so many other levels in both gameplay and narrative design is really great to experience.
The replay-ability and the in-depth tactics of combat that are present in Origins makes it a must play in my book, not to mention the game being chalk full of memorable characters that easily stick out as smart homages to cliche fantasy archetypes like Alistair and Morrigan or more suddle and very cleverly written characters such as Wynne and Sten.
I firmly believe that every time you play through Origins you get a different look at the world of Thedas. Sten as a companion wasn't even interesting to me until going back and playing again. If you take the time, this game will continue to impress and innovate in ways that very few games do.
