The Most Bestest Games of All Time List

It's 5am in old Oslo, and to stay awake I figured I'd start a curated list of my all time favorite video games. While I've played a ton of games over the years, my pile of shame is still pretty sizeable, and I'll try to update this list over time as I get around to playing the great games of yesteryear as well as sparkly new ones.

There will be another Pile of Shame list where I list the games I know I need to play and consider adding to this one.

Here goes:

1. Metal Gear Solid

Me and my best buddy in junior high spent over a year drawing "Metal Gear Solid - Tactical Espionage Action" logos in our note books.

2. Grand Theft Auto: Vice City

3. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

4. Age of Empires II: The Conquerors

A shortage of teachers at my highs school resulted in me and my friends playing AOE2 for 4+ hours every day for a year and a half. Still looking for a better strategy game.

5. World of Warcraft

6. Discworld

The greatest point-n-click adventure game ever. Only prerequisite is having read about 25 Discworld books before going in.

7. Red Dead Redemption

8. Hitman 2: Silent Assassin

9. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare

10. Full Throttle

11. Tekken 2

12. Battlefield: Bad Company 2

13. Theme Hospital

14. The Walking Dead

15. SimCity 2000

16. Halo: Combat Evolved

17. Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory

18. Mass Effect 2

19. Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor

While the story might be mediocre at best, the streamlined Batman-esque combat and the ingenious Nemesis system made this a great game. First game I bothered platinuming (which I guess is a word now).

20. Wolfenstein: The New Order

The fact that a Wolfenstein game could come out of nowhere and end up being one of my favorite games in a good while is nothing short of a miracle

21. Assassin's Creed II

22. Max Payne

The game that invented bullet time. Or at least stole it from The Matrix.

25. Soldier of Fortune

The fact that you could shotgun a guy in the stomach to make his low poly guts pour out, then shoot him in the face to make it stop pulsating, blew my 14 year old mind.

28. DayZ

This entry is really for the Arma 2 mod of the same name. While graphically weak and otherwise janky as f**k, and with an inventory sytem made by aliens, there was nowhere else to get a survival horror experience like this. Might still not be.

29. Worms

Fun fact : I once started running water for a bath as a kid, and decided to play Worms while I waited. Fast forward about an hour, when I remember said bathtub, and find the whole bathroom flooded. My dad was definitely impressed.
