@RsistncE: It sends a message alright: Don´t bother with PC versions because that is where most of the pirates are. Plus they bitch about every frikkin thing like their lives depended on it. If you don´t want to spend your money on a product, don´t go pirating it. THAT is how you send a message.
@RsistncE: If you dont want to buy the game don´t play it. There is never a reason to condone nor to excuse piracy.
Aside from the obvious reasons for not encouraging stealing, if Activision sees their title do badly in retail but get pirated to shitz they will just tighten the grip even more and go even further in making honest buyers feel like they are being criminalized (like we see with the way-too-strict DRM we saw in RA3 and Spore among others). They would NOT get the point and it would NOT achieve what you think it would.
Only if the game does not sell well and does not get pirated because of these choices will activision be unable to push the blame unto someone else (ie the consumers).
Dude, take a look at the kind of games that come out for Consoles, now take a look at games that are coming out for PCs that aren't MMOs or RTSs. And aren't ports from consoles. Face it, once developers figure out how to effectively put MMOs, and RTS on consoles, PCs will be dead. "
There are more than just those genres on a PC, man. There are PC-exclusive FPSes, Adventure games, casual Popcap-style games. Just because consoles share the same genres as PCs hardly constitutes that "PC gaming is dying." "

And Crytec even came out and said they wouldn´t stay PC exclusive anymore in future titles. furthermore, Adventure games and "popcap style" casual games are on consoles as well. But what few PC games are exclusive seem to be because of principles on the part of the developer (blizzard, valve, indie devs) rather than any real businessside desicion.
Personally I don´t think the PC gaming will die. I do feel like PC gaming is turning more and more into microsofts "second console" rather than the seperate kind of machine it has traditionally been.
Unless I misunderstand your post she is a bitch for trying to get you away from your interest (her job is to teach you the skills and theory, not to push her oppinions and views onto you), but you she a pro for seeing past that and giving you a grade based on the skills you display on their merit alone, not the subject you choose. :)
PETA are nothing more than terrorists condoning violence on humans for the sake of their extremist goals of total animal liberation. Being against animal cruelty should in no way make you automatically sympathetic to their cause. Personally I´m against any form of cruelty to animals but that does not mean I´m against eating meat. What would the animals do if left to their own devices? Eat each other? BINGO!
There are alot of humans on the world and obviously natural, wild procreation cannot sustain us all. Therefore it is vastly preferable to the animal species that we eat certain animals bred in extreme quantities for that exact purpose... to be eaten by us, than to go hunt and cause even more extinctions than we are already causing.
Also this crap PETA has that animals are in some way equal to or even above humans is just plain stupid. Humans as well as any other living creature will always put their own kind (be it tribe, herd, flock, family, species) above any other. Therefore it is a natural way of biology that humans consider themselves more important than other animals in matters of survival (and eat-or-be-eaten questions)... guess which animal dominates the planet? Ants? yes but they don´t care. Next to them are humans!
I think I can see where you are comming from on the lack of enthusiasm, but in my oppinion their input is still solid. If they just got excited about everything not only would their integrity go down the drain but they wouldn´t be the people they are. I started listening back in Arrow Pointing Down (kinda negative connotations now I think about it :p) and by now listening to the show is as much about listening in on "what the guys are up to" (in a really freakish sort of stalky way... >.<) as it is about the video games they talk about. Especially since this site by its very nature is very console heavy as opposed to PC and I only own a WII and PC so most game releases does not affect me.
But like someone else said earlier, the cast seems to have taken a slightly lighter turn now we near the big release season with a plethora of really good titles comming we can get excited about :)
Great blog entry on both points :) I shall have to listen in to Robert Ashley´s podcast too. It sort of drowned in the "sea" of new podcasts after the mass layoffs at Ziff Davis(?) and all the old employees forming little personal groups to try to recapture the good vibes of the 1up show, 1up yours and the others.
Perosnally I feel the nostalgic sting less on MMOs than on those regular old games I have on my shelves. I install them once more, start them and SMACK in the face i realise they cannot run on vista and sometimes not even on XP.
@Suicrat: agree. the only way they can get to make fun of all the different stereotypes and still have integrity is because they make fun of litterally everyone. Same thing southpark does :)
