Paladins rock! I cleared DS1 and 2 with my own paladin build similar to this and it's always satisfying to chuck a lightning bolt into somebody's face!
Fuck the Shrine of Amana, fuck it so hard. I have never summoned people in to run the normal parts of an area, but this broke me. I'm at the third bonfire, so I think I'm almost done.
I had this moment last night. That place is of the "not very fair" variety of hard. Restricted movement, so you can't run through the area, and stupid witches that spam homing magic bolts at you from halfway across the goddamn area that you can't even block with 99.9% of the shields in the game. That, and the lock-on distance seems shorter than most other areas so I couldn't even cast magic myself unless I was nearly on top of them. Terrible, un-fun area.
A tip for you guys if you're using magic is to use the binoculars in your off hand, you can aim and cast your spells in first person mode from faraway. It's how I made it past that nightmare zone with my lightning spear.
@kerse: You can use one until the timer runs out. Not sure if it's a specific drop or random cause I got another one after my first torch's 5 minutes ran out and the timer went up.
