Meet The Demoman

Now that I've lured you into my blog with this wonderfully misleading title

I should probably explain what i'm talking about. (Not Team Fortress 2. Sorry)

Demo's on Xbox live!! Mwahahahahahahahaha!

*ahem*

Here are some impressions:

Section 8

In short, it's a cross between Battlefield and Halo. You get to spawn anywhere you chose by being plummeted into the warzone via your spaceship - Medal Of Honour Airborne style. Enemy bases can construct AA guns to stop you from blasting straight into their camp like Rambo and causing a big mess. There is a fully customizable class system which gives you different weapons and attributes. Death and Destruction gets you bones which you can spend on Ammo crates, Vehicles, defensive turrets and Giant armoured suits - Melee someone with one of these badboys and you pick them up and punch them into the horizon. Players can also initiate random objectives in the match,

like spawning a convoy. If you protect the convoy for long enough your team gets a nice bonus.
There's a few nice features that work really well - The run ability, if used for 3 seconds without interruption gives you a long burst of superspeed which means you can skip across the entire map in a few seconds. This means, should everyone below you have died before you hit the ground, you can quickly bounce back to the frontlines. There is a nice Lock On system which means if you iron-sight someone you can lock for a few seconds to prevent them from jetpacking straight out of sight. In a game with such versatile movement options, the ability to lock works really well.
One minor issue I have is the amount of health and shields each player has. Maybe it's just because i'm used to dropping fools with one or two well placed shots in Battlefield and Cod 4, but there seems to be a lot of people running around each other in circles waiting for shields to die down. There is also the option to equip your player with a repair unit which can be used to quickly heal yourself - meaning its fairly painless to nip out of sight and boost yourself back to full. Needless to say, I still killed a fair amount of punks, so perhaps this is not a big as issue as I'm making out...
Anyways. Perhaps it's because I wasn't expecting much from this game that I'm so pleasantly surprised.

Batman: Arkham Asylum

Which fucking architect put all these damn gargoyles in this fucking prison?

I MAED A GAM3 W1TH ZOMB1ES 1N IT!!!1

Yes, that really is what it's called. It's an indie game, can be found on XBLM for a very reasonable price of just 80ms points. There's avatar clothing worth more than that for fucks sake. Anyway, this game is a cross between Serious Sam and Geometry Wars. With Zombies. Its a top-down dual-joystick shooter. You get a nice selection of weapons with which to shoot an interesting array of zombies - including those strapped with explosives - and for some reason cube snakes? The design is crisp and sharp, nice looking characters and great backgrounds that warp and flow fluently with the song playing in the background. It's worth downloading the trial just for the ridiculous background music.

DiRT 2

Apparently there's some sort of complicated politics going on with this game and it's DLC - of which I am blissfully unaware, as it means I can enjoy this stunning Rally game unabashed. Visually stupendous, nice gritty steering with rumbles in all the right places, and a surprisingly addictive soundtrack that actually made me go out and refresh my iTunes library. Big numbers worth mentioning:
  • Kram - Good Love
  • Tommy Sparks - I'm a rope (Yuksek Remix)
  • MSTRKRFT - Work On You (Para Remix)

IN OTHER NEWS

  • I completed shadow complex. Huzzah!
  • My brother got a DS with Pokemon Pearl so I finally got my Magmortar.
  • Notting hill Carnival this weekend! WOOP!
  • Mass Effect avatar clothing - all the Mass Effect fanboys who mocked me for buying COG armour are now faced with the difficult decision of whether or not to buy N7 armour. I'm looking at you End_Boss.
