"The upcoming episode of the video game Grand Theft Auto IV looks to be a wild one.

GTA IV, which was released in April for the Xbox 360 and Sony PlayStation 3, focused on former Eastern European soldier Niko Bellic and his escalating life of crime in the boroughs of Liberty City. This new episode, available Feb. 17 via download exclusively for those who own the Xbox 360 version (no price yet), stars Johnny Klebitz, a member of Liberty City biker gang The Lost.

"Johnny is a very different character than Niko, with a very different background," says Dan Houser, vice president of creative development for Rockstar Games. "I can't go into too much detail on the story, because we try not to give away too much plot before the game is released. But I can say that the story will show you a different side of Liberty City."

The episode, titled The Lost and Damned, requires players to have the full version of the Mature-rated GTA IV (ages 17 and older) and an Xbox Live membership to download. It's likely to carry an M rating, too. (Parents can use the Xbox 360's parental controls to prevent children from accessing inappropriate content.)

GTA IV is the top video game this year; nearly two-thirds of the 5 million copies sold have been for Xbox 360, according to The NPD Group.

In the original game, Niko crossed paths with The Lost several times. This time, Niko has only a bit part, Houser says. "The story is not directly impacted by decisions you took in the main game," he says. But "tons of details and mysteries from the main story get explained, so it will add a lot of color to the main story."

Rockstar Games has been fine-tuning its explorable 3-D virtual worlds since launching its first "sandbox" game with Grand Theft Auto III in 2001.

The new game will let you download more sandbox time. "We feel like we've only scratched the surface in terms of the depth and detail in" GTA IV's mythical Liberty City, says Houser.

Previous games have used downloads to add "new stages, weapons and costumes," says GamePro Media features editor Dave Rudden, "but GTA IV's content will reportedly add hours of gameplay."

Rudden hopes the episode costs $15 or less, but Wedbush Morgan Securities analyst Michael Pachter expects a $20 price and says Rockstar could sell 2 million to 3 million downloads. "I see episodic content as a natural progression of the quality of downloadable content."

Demo by Rare!
Microsoft organized a special Banjo Kazooie : Nuts & Bolts event a few days ago here in Paris. Here's a video of Rare's complete presentation of Banjo Kazooie : Nuts & Bolts for Xbox 360.

----

IGN Hands-On

It might seems superfluous referring back to Banjo-Kazooie's N64 debut ten years ago, what with it being almost two generations in console terms. However, given how long its been since Rare's much-loved platform franchise has put in an appearance, expectations are unsurprisingly high for Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts. The problem is, judging by our hands-on time with the Xbox 360 game at least, this new iteration has strayed so far from Banjo's original template, there are going to be some pretty disappointed purchasers come the game's release if those expectations aren't significantly realigned.

Superficially, at least, Nuts & Bolts fits snugly in the Banjo-Kazooie canon, packed full of humour, expressive characters, impeccable presentation and old-skool charm. Its first 10 minutes are likely to delight long-time fans with its familiar setting and self-deprecating witticisms. With an opening cinematic regaling the dynamic duo's past glories in delightfully low-polygon black and white flashbacks, our first encounter with the bird and bear takes place in an incredibly familiar turnip field. Fat through years of inactivity, you get to spend a few minutes stomping an obese Banjo around before the storyline kicks in.

It’s one of the biggest — and most hotly debated — questions in fandom…which actors (and characters) will director Christopher Nolan enlist as a villain for his third “Batman” film? Rumors have abounded since the release of “The Dark Knight,” and Nolan has remained fiercely tight-lipped. But now, has one of his main players revealed some of the biggest casting news of the decade?

In an interview with MTV News conducted just hours ago at the Toronto Film Festival, Michael Caine — there to promote “Is There Anybody There?” — seemed to confirm rumors that the next installment of the “Batman” film franchise will feature two very well-known names playing the roles of The Riddler and the Bumbershoot Bandit, The Penguin. “They’ve already got them in mind,” said Caine, when asked who he’d like to see take up arms against the Caped Crusader. “It’s Johnny Depp as The Riddler. And The Penguin is Philip Seymour Hoffman. I read it in the paper.”

So Caine is like the rest of us, reading gossip in the tabloids, right? Except for one thing…according to the actor, he confirmed the news through the studio itself.

“When Christopher [Nolan] said we were going to do ‘The Dark Knight’ next, I didn’t what that meant in Batman terms,” related Caine, who plays Bruce Wayne’s loyal butler, Alfred Pennyworth. “I said, ‘What’s the story?’ and he said The Joker. I said, ‘Oh, s–t! How are you going to top Jack [Nicholson]?’ He said, ‘Well, I’ve cast Heath Ledger. And I went ‘Ha! I couldn’t top Jack, but if anyone could, maybe Heath could.’ And he did.

“I was with [a Warner Bros.] executive and I said, ‘Are we going to make another one?’ They said yeah. I said, ‘How the hell are we going to top Heath? And he says ‘I’ll tell you how you top Heath — Johnny Depp as The Riddler and Philip Seymour Hoffman as The Penguin.’ I said, ‘S–t, they’ve done it again!’” [Laughs]

While rumors of Depp and Hoffman have been hot topics around the upcoming film for quite some time, this is the first instance of one of the film’s stars speaking about the news, as well as Caine citing an albeit unnamed WB executive.

Meanwhile, when asked if he’s spoken to Nolan about the news or the next installment’s script, Caine made mention of Nolan’s vacation, and hinted that, “No. He’s gone. He’ll come back with a script sometime.”

"It's 10 years since Rare turned out the original Banjo-Kazooie on N64, in a blummin' marvellous platformer that rivalled Mario 64 in the gameplay stakes while charming us with the Britsoft studio's irresistibly quirky humour.

To make the series relevant to today's discerning gamer, the duo's long-awaited return this November in Nuts & Bolts sees Rare jumping on the user-created content bandwagon, offering a blend of traditional platforming and custom vehicle creation, with a big emphasis on the online community.

We recently visited Rare to take an in-depth look at how the game was shaping up, which you can read all about in our detailed preview , and go further behind the scenes in our Eurogamer TV Special .

But we also made it out of Twycross with a good deal of exclusive, direct-feed footage captured from the latest build of the game, which you can check out below...

NINJA BLADE.

"It's developed by FROM SOFTWARE." From Software Producer Masanori Takeuchi is on the stage. He's talking about the game, which is "cinematic action" title. The trailer showed a ninja standing on a plane, falling into Tokyo and running down the side of a building. The game is set in Tokyo -- "famous Tokyo landmarks" like Shinjuku Station.

The action scenes and the cut scenes are seemless
Wow, Lost Planet designer Keiji Nakoka is working on this game.
4:48
Norihiko Hibino did the music -- who's also done music for MGS 3 and Ryu Ga Gtoku 2. Production I.G. worked on the cutscene animation.

Holy smoke this looks cool.
4:51
They're showing us helicopters, the ninja jumps off and cuts up demon monsters as he falls down to Tokyo below. He catches onto a buiding with a rope and inside the destroyed building, there are zombie monsters. The ninja cuts them up and then a LARGE OBJECT comes crashing into the building. The game is dated for 2009. The game will be playable at TGS."
