@jdh5153: I think the very fact that they're listing an album from 2008 as classic rock should be a good indicator that's probably not an accurate listing.

Classic rock is a radio format which developed from the album-oriented rock (AOR) format in the early 1980s. In the United States, the classic rock format features music ranging generally from the late 1960s to the late 1980s,

Metallica is classic rock.

Just because it was released in the 80's doesn't make it classic rock. Again, it's not even rock. It's metal.

Like I mean, not to cite wikipedia as a perfectly credible source, but

But yeah. Metallica is metal. Huge difference.

@nekroskop: Is there a problem, officer?

Fuck the specific genre shit, Oasis is classic. Best band in the world!

Well that 'specific genre shit' is sort of the topic of this thread.

This thread is boggling my mind.

How old are you people, and when did classic rock start applying to bands from the 80's and 90's? Did that one guy actually say Oasis? What the heck?

I'm not music oracle, but I do like music, and "classic rock" applies to the "Era" of classic rock, which is to say the 60's and 70's. Metallica isn't classic rock, it's 80's metal. Oasis is 90's Britpop.

80's rock is a little iffy when it comes to categorizing it as 'Classic Rock,' but there have definitely been cases now and then where it's true. Problem is most of the examples of 80's music in this particular thread has been 80's metal. So it's really a bad representation. 90's Rock... Yeah that's not even close.

I went to a Who concert in the Spring for their Quadrophobia tour. They still kick as much ass now as they did back then.

Boston is definitely up there. I've got a couple posters of them hanging around the room.

Other than that, I'm putting my money on Electric Light Orchestra.

You know, I read an article about this the other day and thought it was ridiculous then.

Reading it again now, I don't know whether I should laugh or cringe that this is a commonly shared sentiment.

My name is Earl.

You people are monsters for not mentioning it!

This. I was beginning to lose hope that it would be mentioned.
