@GlenTennis: That's good to hear. Also most of the people here, subs and non-subs alike, were quite worried about the fact that going on youtube with that kind of quality was detrimental, especially because of the trailers. It gave a misleading idea of what kind of quality is in GB to an outsider. I'm happy if they can rectify that.

By today's standard it's pretty frustrating game to control. I suppose you have first to fall in love of the setting, presentation and uniqueness of the game and only then resolve to play it, otherwise it can be painful. If you get angry at the game things can get even worse, you have to "surrender" in a way.

Btw I surprisingly found Ico a little less difficult to pay because it relied less on prioritizing the procedural animation over the player input.

Something that is becoming evident from this discussion is that there's a large amount of "fanboys" in the subscriber community. I swear I never thought of GB in those terms and otherwise I always considered this site quite relaxed for internet standards. Instead some of these guys have serious anger issues....

Here's one of the late examples:

@McShank said:

Dont bitch if you cant pay to support the site. Until you support the site then dont complain about things as YOU HAVE NO reason to complain since you have not invested Anything into it.

Thank god there are people who knows how to reason, maybe because they are a little more mature.

Paying member here. I dont pay to get HD, i pay to get the extra content. I see HD as a standard today and it should be available to all.

Edit: Actually, I AM paying for HD content. I watch it on my tv and anything less than 720p looks bad. But i still think it shouldn't be a feature for paying members, it should be free.

I, for example, think that they can easily give 480p content to non-subs, I get the idea that you have to give a treat to paying costumers. Trailers though should be in their original resolution. I mean, they could even spare the time of re-encoding the video in 360p.

By the way,

They look the same to me. Stop complaining when you won't even support the site.

edit: Let me amend that. They look almost the same to me. The difference is there, but subtle enough that complaining when you won't even shell out $5 a month (skip a happy meal or two.) to support a site you like.

Even embedded, those two screens are evidently different. I mean look at the muddy floor, the hair... The youtube player is a mess in 360p. They are not the same at all. Then add to that the fact that in motion it could even look worse. I think you easily proved the point that 360p youtube is way worse than the previous GB player.

@sickVisionz: that's a great idea. everyone who's not willing to pay up front: go to another site! For sure that's the idea WhiskeyMedia and GiantBomb must have been when they made these last changes. That's why they wanted to get some visibility on youtube, to state clearly once more to the rest of the world that if you don't pay you just have to GTFO. That will be a success...

Thank god, your attitude is shared by a minority of GB subscriber and users. I'm pretty confident in saying that it is not certantly shared by the staff, as it's clear that they wanted to create a "largish" site, while the seem to have ended up shooting their own feet.. I'm sure they are working out a solution on a reasonable middle ground that could make everyone satisfied, and then we will forget about this whole incident.

also, just to foster even further my hopes that the protagonist could be (will hopefully be) The Boss: no midi-chlorians... err... nanomachines I mean.

It's going to be Peace Walker 2. With Snake being dead, and Raiden being in Rising, the only one we have left is Big Boss. And quite frankly, I'm fucking stoked. Peace Walker is the shit on the PSP and an even bigger badass on the PS3. I can't wait to play that sumbitch in a native, non-upscaled HD format.

or..... it could be The Boss. I mean, that would be awesome! First a strong female character is totally what this industry need right now, and then it's the effin' Boss. And that means CQC at its best, infinite ammo on the Patriot, and all that stuff!

The problem is that she would ramble alot, but what the hell... ;)

usually backwar compatibility is a smart tactic for hardware companies to ensure that people will buy their next console at launch, based on the idea that the new console will retain the old library of games while the new one is still to come. BC is maily a favor they do for themselves, and it is reflected in sales to early adopters.

Now they are charging you to support this move. I don't see how they can make a profit like this if they discourage their first supporters (the one who get the worst revision of their product). They are asking for low sales.

Maybe the customers is not entitled to anything, but this is not a smart move either...

@RollingZeppelin: I disagree. The YT shot you're showing is much worse than the WM one. The problem is that the image is much blurry, Can you read what's written in red inside the brown box (the player's name I suppose)? It's quite easy on the left, it's impossible on the right.

Add to this that even the slight downgrade in image quality gets much worse in motion. I appreciate your "scientific" approach to the issue, actually going and see if the image quality is effectively worse doing a comparison. But everyone here is saying that videos are worse, and it's quite difficult that all the people here got fooled collectively, moreover I think your last shot confirms thatthe quality is clearly lacks the quality to be a comfortable view.

I stress that the majority here is not pretending anything, what most users are saying here is that going public on youtube with this quality won't get any new visitors, let alone new paying members. Replying "just pay" is not a proper answer....
