How often do you run into Thanatos? I've seen him once (and died during the encounter). Since then (about 10 runs) I've only seen him once in Sisyphysis's room. Otherwise nothing. Is that normal?

I always find it weird when they say not to buy it. I’m assuming most people on this site will buy one before a price cut anyway, so why not buy it now?

Opportunity cost. Even if the price is the same, buying it now means you don't have access to the money to use in other ways in the meantime. You're assuming everyone has enough disposable income that spending hundreds of dollars won't have a material effect on their lives.

@bisonhero:There are plenty of streamers who treat it the way you're describing.

That's the actual issue I've had with his streams yeah. I think his audio goofs are kinda funny in concept but every member of any audience thinks they're the funniest person in the room and it turns into a nightmare.

As for the toxic portions.. you gotta really set boundaries early and be willing to enforce them pretty harshly otherwise Twitch chats spiral fast.

It's really amazing how different twitch chat behaves based on who the streamer is. Chat tends to mirror the personality of the streamer in someway.

EDIT: I want to clarify: I'm not making a judgement about Dan or his viewers. I have no experience with his twitch streams. I find the large discussion about the relationship between streamers and viewers interesting, which is what I'm commenting on generally.

@efesell: In the same way that there are YouTubers who cynically game the platform and those who actually produce worthwhile content. You'd be hardpressed to find an online platform that doesn't seem to encourage grifters. There are plenty of twitch streamers - big and small - who aren't gross about it.

I've only seen a few clips of Dan on twitch (as a result of reading this thread) so I don't think I can really judge. It's hard to know the true context of a clip that came out of an hours long stream. I have to say I find this a bit off-putting though:

Ironically doing the thing is still doing the thing.

That said, I'm not his audience so it doesn't really matter if he does things I don't want to see.

I don't watch nearly as much of the content here as I used to, but to answer the question on its face, no I don't think they're becoming too negative. As people have pointed out, they were more positive about the PS5 reveal recently. I imagine the effect of their "negativity" towards Ubisoft would have been softened had this been a normal E3 year and all these streams came within the course of a few days. I'm sure we can go back to any E3 archive and see them praising one particular press conference and completely trashing another. They've never been uniformly rah-rah or poo-poo.

I can't say much about their tone in the Ubisoft video since I didn't really watch it. I tried but ended up skimming through because I'm completely uninterested in anything they were showing. I could see feeling disappointed in their ambivalence if I were excited about some of these games. There have definitely been times I've been anticipating certain games and GB basically ignore them because no one on the staff is interested. Worse is when they do take looks at games and seem to miss what's so appealing about them (I recently started playing Disco Elysium and I went back to check out the QL, and well, yeah). So yeah I get it can be frustrating when their feelings don't line up with yours. But that's to be expected. There are a lot of games and everyone has their own point of view. There are also a lot of people out there talking about games, so if you want to find someone who agrees with you about a particular game, you can certainly do that.

@himsteveo:I've got some theories about what a part III would revolve around.

First of all, I don't think the series can conclude (whether it's with part III or a later game) without resolving Ellie's immunity. I think one way or another the series will have to introduce a new way in which Ellie can be used to produce a cure. One way I can see this happening is someone with the fireflies rediscovering the original method by which Abby's dad was going to produce a vaccine. This would bring Abby back into the story as she'd have a strong motivation to see her father's work come to something after his death. She could be the one who sets out to get Ellie and bring her to wherever the procedure will occur. Ellie, seeking to redeem herself and give her life meaning, will go willingly. This would align Abby and Ellie and I think it would be super interesting to see the two of them need the other despite hating each other. I think it would be fascinating to see their relationship evolve as they actually get to know each other.

Now we know from part II that Ellie would have wanted to be sacrificed to save humanity. In part III this would be challenged by the fact that she now has people who depend on her. I'm not sure if she'll have been able to completely mend her relationship with Dina but I definitely see her playing an important part in JJ's life. Maybe as the events of the third game playout, she's forced into the position of being JJ's only caregiver. Ellie will want to give herself up to save humanity but it would also mean abandoning JJ, a kid who's lost everyone who's cared for him.

Ellie is put in a similar situation to Joel at the end of the first game. Obviously the fate of humanity outweighs the life of a single person (or two people) but she'll discover it's not as easy to make that choice as she thought. I like this idea because it gives Ellie a way of recontextualizing Joel's actions which she for so long felt were unforgivable.

I don't know how I'd have things play out in the end, but if I were writing part III, this is the main conflict I'd want to explore.

Thanks guys. Appreciate.

Also, I probably should have been more clear about this but I'd rather not know how any "sections" are left. I'd like to keep that kind of stuff as a surprise.

I'm currently playing through Abby's Seattle Day 1.

Can someone give me a rough idea of how much of the game is left? Please leave it as vague as possible. A rough hour count is what I'm looking for.

Thanks.

@fear_the_booboo: I can appreciate where you're coming from on the combat but I enjoyed the process of figuring out what works against what enemy and how the different spells/abilities worked. Both those things made the combat feel more strategic to me. Like not only do you have to know what the "right" move to do is, you also have to do a bit of work to set it up sometimes. I'm not sure if this was a purposeful design decision or not but it definitely worked for me.

The "unresponsiveness" of the controls didn't bother me so much either because I never thought of this as an action game straight up.

I have two main complaints. One is the camera. I may be remembering wrong, but I don't think you can be locked on to an enemy and rotate the camera to see what's going on around you. Flicking the stick changes the lock on.

The other is that the stronger your characters get, the less you have to worry about strategy.

@lajiaya: Found it pretty funny that the places you spend the most time in (if you do the sides quests) look the worst. I've also noticed around the internet that very few talk about this. Did this game get a free pass because Midgar is so well done or something? Almost seems unfair to other games that got torn part for being rushed this gen. Mass Effect Andromeda comes to mind.

It does feel like most of the positive impressions of the game out there on major outlets are from the first few hours of the game. The part where the game is undoubtedly at it's best in every way.

Personally, the low-res textures didn't bother me so much. I can see why they'd bother others but I just don't mind it for whatever reason.
