I have to say my GOTY of 2009 was actually Left 4 Dead 2, I know sue me! And also, I think that 2010 will be an amazing year for games. The fact there are 4 good games coming out in January says a lot. Well keep it easy guys! :)

Brief Update - Bulletpoints!

  • I got Bionic Commando and I think it is great. I don't know where these 5/10, 6/10 reviews are coming from, the game is a lot of fun. The muliplayer bites though to be honest, sorry guys.
  • I got The Chronicles of Riddick Assault on Dark Athena about a month ago and it was a great buy. Escape from Butcher Bay is still a mostly awesome experience and Dark Athena is still good enough to make it worth a purchase. I should really get around to wrap up Dark Athena, I just haven't played it in ages.
  • Another game that I have bought was Clive Barker's Jericho for the epic price of £2.50 and while it was worth that much, I wouldn't play much more for it. The game is ok at first but the weapons are so weak and the game is extremely repetitive and simply boring in all honesty. I will probably slog through it some day but it is one of the worst shooters out there for the 360.
  • I also got the Sega Megadrive Ultimate Collection and this was an impulse buy but I grew up playing with the Sega Megadrive back in the day so this was a good purchase. Over 40 games for £25 is a good deal. A lot of the games in this pack are still a lot of fun to play like the Streets of Rage games and the Sonic series but some of the games that I thought were great back in the day like Golden Axe suck balls now :P Still, this package has given me the chance to play many games that I never got around ot trying and it's great overall.
  • I also bought Kane & Lynch: Dead Men again for the 360 for a mere £5 and I still think that game is still pretty good, flawed but the campaign has many exciting moments and the multiplayer is still a lot of fun.

Until next time, see you guys but do you think I should buy Bionic Commando Rearmed if I have never played the original? Would I still like it or should I just skip it? I am just wondering :) Keep it easy.

Darkman and Wheel Sector

Hello there y'all! I haven't done one of these so called blog posts recently but I haven't been doing much anyway to be honest with you. I haven't been playing many games and gaming really isn't the main priority of my life at the minute really but I don't mean that in a bad way, I just mean that I haven't had the time. The games that I have been playing the most are both Dark Sector and Wheelman though I did play some Gears of War 2 to see what the new experience system was like it seemed pretty good if you ask me.

Over a week ago, I picked up Dark Sector which is overall a solid but fairly drab game. It starts off well with good game mechanics and plenty of gore but the game runs out of tricks very quickly. While the game seems pretty short, I am on Chapter 7 out of 9 I believe but it feels like I have been playing it for ages. Considering I got it for £5.50, really not that big of a deal and it is a good enough game, just not a great one. The game is just super repetitive in a way that I don't like. The puzzles while aren't too hard, really kill the pace of the game also. Still, I hope to finish that soon because the achievements aren't too bad in it. The multiplayer seems fairly piss too, I hope to maybe get the "No 1. in a ranked match" achievements because they are 30G each but meh.

Another game that I picked up there on Friday was Wheelman. I have to say, this game is one of the most mixed reaction games I can remember, even when the demo first came out. There were several people who really liked the demo, me included and thought it could be a really good game while others hated it and couldn't stand it. Considering I liked the demo so much, I decided to get the game because there isn't much coming out anyway, the next new game is probably going to be The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena which isn't coming out until the end of April over here which is a tad shit to be honest. Overall, I still like Wheelman for what it is. It is a goofy, ridiculous driving game with plenty of action and laughs provided. Some people are bitching about things like the handling but I think it's fine, has moments of frustrating but that's just because I am not very good at driving games. The main complaint seems to be the on-foot sections which GameSpot described them as being "Painfully Bad." Yeah they aren't great but they are functional and they don't bother me too much though the lack of a jump button is silly. My main complaint with the game so far is actually the story, it is really bad, period. I don't know how far I am until the end but I am enjoying the game and I will see how well it turns out. I can see why people would hate the game but if you liked the demo, then check it out.

As said previously, there is nothing really coming out at the moment but this is for the best because I am meant to be studying and all that caper. I was a bit interested in Wanted: Weapons of Fate before but reviews claim it's about 3-4 hours long and that is feckin' ridiculous, no way I am paying full price for that. In the meantime though, I don't think I will play games too often though I will when Easter rolls around soon in the next few weeks. Until then, keep yourself safe.

Just a Thought

What are the chances that Wolfenstein 3D will be released on XBLA around the same time the new Wolfenstein game comes do you think? My thoughts are that they better! :)

Eat Lead, Halo Wars, Peggle and Vin Diesel

Hello everyone out there! I hope you had a good weekend and I hope you have a great St. Patrick's Day tomorrow :) This is just all of the stuff that I did last week... check it out! :D

  • Finished Eat Lead: The Return of Matt Hazard and I actually liked it a lot more than many different reviewers out there. Don't get me wrong, it is just Gears of War knock off which some annoying weapons but I still liked it for what it was, it was quite a fun game. The humour is weak overall but I did laugh everynow and again so I guess that's good enough. I would recommend this game for rent definitely since it is single-player only and you can get an easy 900+ gamerscore if you are into that sort of thing. I did end up trading Eat Lead for full price which I can't complain about.
  • So with that trade in, I got Halo Wars which I do like an awful lot though I am rather shit at it. The only RTS that I was actually any good at was Company of Heroes but I think I will eventually get the knack of this game. The campaign is actually pretty good considering I usually hate RTS campaigns, they are pitiful! But this game is a lot of fun and I think this is by far the best console RTS, bar none.
  • On the same day, Peggle was released onto Xbox Live Arcade and I think this is a must try if you are into games that are just satisfying as hell and really fun to play. It is a puzzle game but you don't have to employ much strategy, it's just loads of fun and for 800 points, the price is right. I did play loads of Peggle Extreme back when that was free with the PC version of The Orange Box but it doesn't have the variety that the full game has. I recommend!
  • And finally, I managed to get around to playing the Wheelman demo which came out a small while ago and I was actually fairly surprised with how fun that was. It was a nice mix between Burnout and GTA which is a clever and fun combination. I don't know how good the full title will be but for a demo, it was a lot of fun. My only complaints were that the handling will take time to get used to and the character models looked somewhat weird. Vin Diesel looks pretty good but maybe not as good as you might expect. I think fellow Giant Bomb user "toolzz360" said it well on his video where he commented on Vin Diesel "looking high." I completely agree.

Riddick 1.
Riddick 1.

Well that is pretty much it but in anticipation of The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena, I was wondering should I watch the film Pitch Black? Is it a good movie? I heard it is pretty bad but I want some opinions. I already love Escape from Butcher Bay but I feel a bit dumb liking the games and not the movies. Ah well, you guys take it easy!

The Past Week :)

Hello there, this is just your regular good ol update. Great stuff!

  • Played The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena demo and I thought it was great and I can't wait for it to come out. When people say that the graphics suck, it pisses me off because I think they are really really great.
  • Also played the trial for Watchmen: The End is Nigh. It seems like a pretty good beat-'em-up sort of game. I probably would have bought it if it had online co-op but as a result, I will skip it.
  • Played the Wanted: Weapons of Fate which is ok at best. The gunplay seems solid but nothing spectacular and the AI seems borderline retarded. Oh well, it could end up being something pretty fun.
  • I bought Left 4 Dead for the 360. Yeah weird because I have the PC version but I had no one to play it with so it was a waste really. The 360 version seems pretty good and achievements give reason to play through it over and over.
  • I also bought Eat Lead: The Return of Matt Hazard. Don't ask me why I felt I needed to play this but it seems pretty appealing judging by gameplay and the plot seemed pretty interesting. Overall, it is a decent game but I really can't see myself holding onto it. I will probably trade it in for something like Halo Wars during the next week and the game is hardly funny. It does not go far enough into the videogame parody arena for it to be funny and most of the jokes are just tame. Still, not too bad, much better than ShellShock 2: Blood Trails actually. Great achievements too :P

That is all really. I have yet to try out the Wheelman demo which I will do, the reception has been fairly mixed on it and as mentioned, I will probably get Halo Wars this week. Well until next time, see you guys later! :)

Games I have been playing recently (in more detail)

Hello there! This is just a simple blog explaining some of the more recent games that I have purchased.

First of all, F.E.A.R 2: Project Origin. I was one of the people who really loved the first game, I shat myself when I first played it, it was so much fun. When F.E.A.R 2 was announced, I was obviously excited, I even played through the two decent but not as great expansion packs. F.E.A.R 2 simply did meet my expectations and it is a really great game. I actually got the game for the 360 because I have actually given up with PC gaming, I really couldn't be bothered with it anymore, it is too much hassle. I had no problems using the 360 controller to aim or anything like that, it was all very seemless. I haven't got much to say about F.E.A.R 2 it is about an 8 hour ride that is just awesome from start to finish. People have complained that the game isn't as scary as the first but in all honesty, I didn't find the first game scary either. I just don't get scared of games I guess, not at jump scares. The multiplayer in the game is actually quite good because the action is solid and there are plenty of modes. My favourite is failsafe because it's just like Counter-Strike. There is a leveling up system in the game but it is so unobvious that people probably don't know that it is there. Not to mention it takes ages to level up anyway. But overall awesome game, at least rent it.

Lots of fun
Lots of fun

Secondly, ShellShock 2: Blood Trails. In all honesty I pre-ordered this game alongside F.E.A.R 2 because I was somewhat interested in it and if it did suck then I can just trade it in... which is what I did. On the surface, the game isn't horrible. The premise is interesting, zombies in the Vietnam War sure if Wolfenstein could do zombies in World War II then it must be a smash, and there is plenty of blood in the game which can make games more satisfying when you kill your foes. But that is really it. The game suffers from many problems and can barely be recommended to anyone. Rent it if you really have to or for easy achievements. The main thing that kills the game is the VERY SHITTY framerate that plagues most enjoyment in the game. At times, the game is actually a slideshow, no joke. I haven't played a game that has ran this badly on a console in ages. Even Half-Life 2 on the Xbox didn't seem this bad. Since the game's framerate is constantly slow, you will sort of get used to it after some time but still, it's fucking ridiculous. The aiming sensitivity is way too fast by default, turn it down a good bit to make it playable. The game's AI is deeply flawed as well. Zombies are really stupid as you can expect but sometimes they get stuck or walk into a wall or something, it's just dumb. The typical VC enemy are just annoying because they always seem to know where you are and they just shoot you non stop, it's a pain in the ass. Regardless, going through the game either on normal or easy is really not too tough and the game is only about 5 hours long which is pretty crap. What is even worse that the game has no multiplayer which is bullshit. Rebellion really fucked up their good record with this game, I loved a lot of their games like Rogue Trooper, Aliens versus Predator and Sniper Elite but this just sucks. If this was a budget game, it wouldn't be too bad but it's not. It's horrendous value, just don't bother.
Not so fun
Not so fun

The latest game that I have been playing is Street Fighter IV and I love it really. I am not a mad Street Fighter fan but I have always found the series to be a lot of fun and it is actually one of my favourite fighting games along with the Mortal Kombat series and IV is really my favourite game in the series so far. I found the previous games to be pretty hard both to play and just hard in general, I flat out sucked at Turbo HD Remix but IV is much more accessible and it's just awesome. Many say that this game is only playable if you spend loads of money on a joystick but I have been playing with the standard 360 controller and I am actually find it fine. I won't spend loads of money on something that I will probably regret later on down the line. But yeah, the gameplay is amazing and the graphics are really pretty. If anyone wants a fight then just ask, I am willing to get shitted on, I am really terrible.

That's all folks! See ya later guys

PS Completely forgot about GTAIV The Lost and Damned. It is great for the price but I don't think I am going to play through it again anytime soon but it was so cool the way the story linked to main GTAIV. I recommend!

Sorry for extended absence!

Here is a quick round up of shit that I have done since New Year's! :)

  • Finished Dead Space - loved it
  • Finished Gears of War 2 - loved it
  • Finished Saints Row - quite good
  • Finished Halo 3 - alright campaign far better than Halo 2's
  • Bought Worms and Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix (? that's it right?) Both pretty awesome though I suck so much dick at SFII
  • Bought a PlayStation 1 and it came with 10 games, most of them pretty crappy aside from Syphon Filter
  • Bought GRAW hoping to finish soon, awesome game, especially co-op
  • Bought Unreal Tournament 3 for the 360. I already had it for the PC but I actually like the 360 version better. On the PC, I play it for 30 seconds and then leave when I get spawn killed like 5 times in a row. I am actually quite good at the 360 version and it's fun.
  • Bought Enemy Territory: Quake Wars for the 360. Again already had it for the PC but my friend needed someone to play with and I thought I'll be the guy to help. It's quite good for the 360 but not enough dudes play online
  • Bought ShellShock 2: Blood Trails, a decent at best game. 5 hour campaign and piss-poor framerate. Still not too bad, I expected pure garbage tbh.
  • Bought F.E.A.R 2, awesome.

That's about it, hoping to get THE LOST AND THE DAMNED soon but my brother has my GTAIV but he will give it back soon, as he says anyway!

See you soon guys

Also Games That I Have Beaten in 2008

To celebrate the birth of 2009, I will make a simple bulletpoint list of games that I beat in 2008. There is no real order here but still.

  • Army of Two
  • Mercenaries 2
  • Rainbow Six Vegas 2
  • Fallout 3
  • Grand Theft Auto IV
  • Duke Nukem 3D
  • Castle Crashers
  • Doom
  • Wall-E
  • Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3
  • Crackdown
  • Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe
  • Call of Duty 3
  • Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway
  • Soldier of Fortune Payback
  • Gears of War
  • BioShock
  • Quantum of Solace
  • Battlefield: Bad Company
  • Smash TV (I guess)

Not the biggest list in the world but still, it made me realise that I still have loads of games to finish. Never got around to the first Saints Row again for example. Condemned 2 and Far Cry 2 get honorable mentions for being games that I got far in and the save corrupted. It will still take a few more months to go back to Far Cry 2, all that driving to do again!

But still have a Happy New Year and stay safe.

Hmm let me think...

The question is somewhat misleading, does it mean the worst game that I played from 2008 or just worst game I played in 2008 overall. Hmm, I have to say 2008 has been a kind year towards my hunger to play and enjoy videogames. There were definitely some disappointing games they do appear every year unfortunately, but none of those games such as Army of Two or Call of Duty: World at War were too shitty, just a general disappointment.

But a game that I did play in 2008 that was actually released at the tailend of 2007 was the monstrosity of a game that was Soldier of Fortune: Payback. Thankfully, I actually didn't buy this or even rent it, my friend had the game and he knew that I was a fan of the first two games on the PC and that I should try the game out. The first Soldier of Fortune for the PC is an underrated classic in my view, it was fun, exciting and stayed fresh enough throughout. The second game went into a new direction simply because the first game was largely criticised for being unrealistic both in gameplay and story terms. All I have to say is fuck the critics! While many of you know Counter-Strike is one of my favourite games of all time but I didn't think that game needed to go towards realism, it was awesome as it was. Don't get me wrong though SOFII was a damn fine sequel and many prefer it over the original but beware, the Xbox version is a piece of shit. I didn't really go into SOF Payback with much anticipation since there was much uproar over fans that Raven Software wasn't making the game and it was announced that it was being released by Activision Value which are infamous for releasing piss-poor PC games for a cheap price. However, the game did end up being released on normal Activision but still, it felt like a budget game through and through. The game was actually released by Cauldron who made a shooter called Chaser for the PC, never played it personally but it garnered a fanbase so these guys must be decent game developers right?

Not really. The game itself actually sounds pretty pleasing to people like me who prefered the first Soldier of Fortune game but liked that the game at least had realistic guns to shoot. Payback throws a bucketload of enemies at you and you just have a gun to kill them. This would actually be decent if the controls were decent but they were some of the worst aiming controls I have ever used and that is saying something. I am playing the 360 version but I even heard the PC version aims poorly. The aiming was slow and stiffer than a badger's arse and the lock-on made it stick to enemies and it was just a pain. I tried messing around with the different options but it did fuck all, it was awful. The standard button layout was decent and it was a bit of a shame the game came out about a month after Call of Duty 4, where the controls, graphics and just overall gameplay shit all over this. When the game has down on the D-Pad to crouch, then you know there is a problem. The Soldier of Fortune games were well talked about because of the gore and Payback tries to do the series justice but it failed because the gore just looked shit and cartoonish. No one would ever look at this gore and consider it to be shocking because it looked too fake and rubbish. Believe it or not, I actually beat the game on the hardest difficulty but not only that but I beat the last too bosses in the game by just stabbing them over and over with the knife. Yes, after you stab them, they stumble and that gives you another chance to stab them again and again until they fall over dead. Pro tip there but I didn't even look that up, I tried it myself because the game became very difficult on the last level because you literally walked around a corner and died. What a load of shit, they clearly didn't playtest the hardest difficulty, arseholes!

So yeah Soldier of Fortune Payback was the worst game I played in 2008. Rubbish.

Soldier of Fortune Payback to everyone who wanted a SOF3
