Halo: Combat Evolved by Kojima Studios.
STORY:
You are Master Chief, the last remaining spartan, bred for battle, genetically engineered super soldier. Humanity is fighting a war agains the covenant and come upon the Halo ring in space. Master chief struggles with his past. If he is a super-soldier, is he human and should his honor be devoted to defending humans against the covenant?
You start the game on The Pillar of Autumn ship, where you are introduced to Cortana. Cortana was once a human, but was forced to move her consciousness into the Mjolnir Armor in order to save her commanding officer, Captain Keyes, who was dying from battle wounds. In this operation, all her vital organs were transplanted into him (All of this is shown in a lengthy flashback cutscene).
Now, Cortana has realized the true meaning of honor, which she gradually teaches to Master Chief throughout the game in various dialogue sequences. Naturally, all of these occur in secluded screens with avatar icons and text boxes, never during gameplay.
On your team is young sergeant Johnson, only 14 years old. He snuck into the UNSC registration and faked his age. He is a motivated fighter and between levels tells Snake about cool videogames from the 21st century.
CONTROLS/GAMEPLAY:
The game is played in first person, but does not feature dual-stick controls or strafing. Instead, there's Goldeneye 007-stlye movement where pushing the stick left/right turns you around. You hold down the B button to turn towards the enemy, then the BACK button to click off the safety catch on your gun - on covenant weapons, this is done by holding down both triggers - then you toggle wether you are firing from the hip or aiming down the barrel by going into a non-pause menu screen. THEN, you press Y to fire. Recharging your shields is done by quitting the game and loading up your save. Thankfully, enemies move and shoot very slowly. There are 7 bosses in the game, each with its own riveting anecdote about why humans are bad.
That last part made me lmao, and this is a FINE example of "Game development gone wrong" hats off sir!
