Well actually I've read a few topics already on how people here think the search is broken, but my beef is on a missing feature that should be provided in a search. I don't care if it's un-user friendly, even if I have to query something like "concept:oneTwoThree && genre:first_person_shooter"

Not sure if that's the same issue you guys are having.

I posted this in a thread I made 3 weeks ago with no response, hopefully cause no mods/Whiskey Media staffers saw it, so I'm gonna pump it here.

Basically I can't seem to filter the games under the "Browse" subsection on the website. Everytime I try to filter using any of the game categorizes with a platform it just defaults back to filtering the major releases only and not, let's say, by "Alphabetical" or "Release Dates"

Also, is it a known issue that I cannot search the DB for games of specific categories? Rather than searching for a game or concept by name, can I query the DB for games attached to certain concepts (or group of concepts), and/or genres, and/or platforms, and/or <some other criteria I want>? I don't see that feature anywhere.

Now that you guys mentioned the Blackberry, makes me wonder if my assertion on how Presidents, Ministers and High-ranking officials get their stories pre-written for them by some other nutbars in their deep bench of talent.

@devotfeige:  Hard to believe, but I understand that your kind still exists. I used to be one of them, until the point the hardware dies on me and it's beyond expertise to fix it, but I also understand that we are a niche. VHS is a pretty old thing and time would have caused it to phase out. A PS2, on other hand, is more recently. It's more likely for people to have it. Get what I'm saying? A significant number of people might still have a PS2, especially in other regions of the world in which buying a Xbox 360 or a PS3 is insanity because of it's price.

@The_A_Drain:  To add to your point, in my study I've read some companies still use tapes as a backup medium because it lasts longer, albeit much, much more costly than DVDs.

@devotfeige:  Well the only reason why I don't wanna talk about the N64-gen of platforms is cause they are REALLY stupid old. Anyone who had one probably has lost it, or its broken. Some might have thrown it away because of the lack of games that came out once the PS2-gen of platforms started rolling out.

I'm just trying to make the topic relate better by using recent stuff. I'm not talking about super old stuff that predates the millennium.

@cstrang: Because people don't buy them right? Because of the stigma of it being old and dated? I kinda thought of that myself but isn't it weird how that works? How the pressure of wanting the latest the greatest controlling our spending power? That is my question; why are we like this?

This has been bugging me for quite awhile and I can't really think of an acceptable reason for it. Why don't game developers continue making stuff on these older platforms like the PS2, rather than moving on to the newer generation systems like the PS3 or the Wii?

I mean if you think about, these older systems are pretty well established. Documentations for their development should be all over the place. It should be really easy and cost-effective to be making games for them too - if you gotta go on a new system, you take a significant amount of time to research and and make a new engine for the game. So your profit margin might be significantly reduced.

If you argue that people don't want to buy games on these older platforms, why not? Why is it that people tend to not buy games that appear on the PS2 compared to the PS3? You can say that most of these games have just been reduced to junk and shitware, only supported by those unheard-of developers trying to make a quick buck. But what if those bigger developers continue pushing games for the older systems? Let's not talk about N64 or PS1, as no one would probably have one by now. But a PS2 or maybe a GC, some (or maybe most, if development didn't halted for those systems) people might still hold onto those.

As a gamer I really don't want to see game visuals not evolving, but if I think like a money-making businessman, shouldn't this path be the most logical to making shit tonnes of money? What do you guys think?

Recently got an email from S2 stating that HoN is going to exit Open Beta and into retail soon. Come 12th May 4:00pm GMT -5, you're gonna need a paid account to play on HoN. South East Asian people like myself have to play another version of HoN (Just like LoL) cause for some reason DotA is super popular here and it warrants separating the user-base like that.

I'll post the email here for all to see;

I wanted to send out an email to let everyone know that HoN is going retail on Wednesday, May 12 @ 4:00pm EST (-5 GMT).  Starting Wednesday, May 5 @ 4:00pm EST (-5 GMT) we will allow accounts that purchase (or have already pre-purchased) to claim nicknames of accounts that are not pre-purchased.  If there is a nickname you want or if you would like to secure your own nickname, please take the time to purchase your account now instead of later.

Going to retail is exciting news for the game but raises many questions.  I tried to cover many of those questions in this FAQ.

1.) What happens when HoN goes retail?

When HoN goes retail it will require a paid account to play.  If you have not purchased your account you may do so by visiting https://www.heroesofnewerth.com/purchase_account.php

2.) Will HoN be free?  How much will it cost?  Are there any recurring fees?

HoN will not be free, it will cost a ONE TIME $30.00 USD payment with ZERO recurring fees.

3.) What will happen with stats, replays, PSR, and SMR after retail?

All stats will be reset upon release.  Also all historical data of previous matches, including replays, will be purged.  SMR and PSR (the ratings used for match making and public games) will be compressed, bringing all accounts closer to 1500 as we feel this will positively impact gameplay and team balances post release.

4.) Will HoN still be updated and new content added after retail?

We plan to consistently update HoN with lots of new heroes, items, features, and other goodies throughout the product life cycle for free.

5.) If I Pre-Purchased can my name be taken?  How do I stop my name from being taken?

If you pre-purchased your account your nickname can not be taken and that is the only way to secure it.

6.) If I Pre-Purchase before May 5th, can I take a non Pre-Purchased accounts name?

Absolutely, and on top of that we will make sure that all pre-purchased accounts have one nickname change credit to use for May 5.

7.) Are Golden Shields, Golden Names, and Taunt available anymore?  Will they ever be available again?

Unfortunately those pre-purchase incentives ended with closed beta a month ago.  We will not sell Golden Shields or Golden Names again but accounts will be able to acquire Taunt and other cool account features post release.

8.) I'm from South East Asia and I can't Pre-Purchase, why?  How will I play after retail?

We will be making our formal announcement for our partner and strategy for SEA early next week.  If you play from SEA your nickname will be able to taken but that will not impact you moving forward past retail.

I want to thank everyone who helped us beta test the game.  I could not be more proud of the product we have created and I look forward to seeing most of you post retail!  If you have not purchased the game yet, you may do so at
https://www.heroesofnewerth.com/purchase_account.php

So... If anyone's still interested in this game. Now's your chance to pay for this product... =/

EDIT: What... This got dumped to General Dicussion? Can a mod move this over to the Heroes of Newerth page?

They've announced this a while ago, about when the first Mechwarrior (current gen) trailer was out. I've yet to actually see them put the game out.

Also, my DNS cannot resolve mektek.net so I guess they don't even have that site up and running.
